    Default Derby revisited

When I got my West Coast Shaving sampler pack I was eager to try all the blades. The Derby's held special promise since they were both praised in the forums here and very reasonably priced as a bonus.
So they were second on the list to give a go.
I was disappointed to find they weren't too my liking. Actually I didn't like them at all. Irritation, not a very close shave. Bleh. I'll pass thank you. I just assumed since they were better than the Wal-greens or Wal-mart brands, but not overpriced like the Feathers people just put up with them.
But the Feathers. Ah, the Feathers. They sliced through my beard like a light saber. I got some longevity out of the blades. So after giving everything else a go around the Feathers were it.
But once again I was tempted by economy. (who isn't right now) To my surprise on loading my Red-tip with a Derby this morning I got a great shave. I chalk it up to technique. I was one month into the DE experience, I was using a Superspeed. Now I'm 5 months better and have the Red-tip. The price is right, the shave was pretty close.
So if I can get a decent amount of shaves outta a blade, I think I might be one of those Derby fellas.

It could have been your technique(which i doubt, since Feathers were no problem); more than likely,it was your blade/razor combo. Sometimes that can make a world of difference. The Feather/Slant can be deadly, but the Feather/SS is a match made in heaven.

Actually, I liked Derbys for many months.

Now, I can't even use them.

    IDK

    your experience may be different.

Blade/Razor combo is certainly a funny thing. Before experiencing it for myself, one would have a tough time convincing me. I can say with all honesty that it makes a world of difference. I made a post earlier addressing the same issue. The example I used is how (for me) a Derby works well in most of my razors. I use a 39c Sledgehammer just for head shaving. If I put a Derby in this razor the results are horrible. Using my Fatboy, I get great shaves with Derbys, Aeternas, or Astras...If I load a Crystal in the fatty, I can't get a decent shave to save my life....Yet an Aeterna, Astra, or Crystal performs very well in the 39c. Go figure!?!

    Just my $.02......and a +1 on Marty's post!

    Regards,
