    Default Oldie But Newie??

OK here is my sad story. In 1957, my Stepfather gave me a new Gillette razor while I was home on (NAVY) Boot Leave. I used that razor until about 1970 and for some stupid reason I went to the new razors.
Don't ask me why because I know.
Now, with the cost of those disposable razors going up and three blades are needed for a close shave, I'm thinking this is dumb.
I use to get a great shave with one blade, right? You bet.
So I started looking for my Gillette, which I haven't seen in 38 years. So far I haven't found it and I have looked everywhere. It will be in the last place I look.
Several months ago I wanted to go back to the Shaving Mug and Brush. I went to ClassicShaving per advise from my Barber and bought a shaving mug and a good brush.
Still not able to find my razor, I purchased a Parker DE razor and have been getting close shaves (with some razor burn also, but I will live through it) for the last couple of weeks. Of course there is the learning curve that I must progress through but I am getting there. My second shave was so close I had to see if my wife liked it. She said that was the way my face felt when she first met me in 1962.
Well, I am 68 now and still looking for my Gillette. One memory that came back right away was the feel of the blade on my face. That is something I don't remember feeling with the plastic razors.
Just wanted to say HELLO to everyone and say that I have read a lot of good information on B&B, it's the best place to be.

It always seems to work out that way, doesn't it?

Thanks to everyone and a big thanks to you John. You know how to make a person feel welcome to B&B. The offer was enough my friend, I will get a chance to offer help to someone later.

You are correct, not only did the economy effect my decision to return to my DE but also the environment.
I am also getting a closer and better shave with my one blade than I did with two or three blades. Toss in a few more leakers.

I was informed to check in here and say hello.
I stumbled upon when looking for another product and have already learned a thing or two. So thank you for all your efforts in sharing you experience.
I'm not sure what I'm suppose to otherwise post.
I don't have significant story to tell but I'll list as did the previous gentleman what I use.

RAZOR: currently Gillette Power Fusion, but after reading here I'm considering trying the Rite Aid Tri-flex for much less money.

BLADES:Gillette power fusion at a whopping $28 for 8. I get one good and one okay shave frpom each cartridge andif I soak it in alcohol afterward I might get a third bad one.

BRUSH: Don't use one anymore. My product doesn't require it

SOAP: I use an exfoliating scrub and then a shaving oil

    AFTERSHAVE: Mont Source Equalizing toner

Welcome Tux Dealer, I'm new here also and I have found a lot of great information plus greater people.
I had another great shave last night. My wife said she was going to take me in for a transfusion next week. I wonder what she means??
OK, it was a one toweler--a small one.

Thanks Randy for looking around for me, unless I tossed it out a long time ago it has to be here.
By the way, does anyone remember the old "Shave Store?"
When I was a kid my Dad use to take my brother and me to this shave store where they had everything under the sun for shaving. My Dad was a Straight Edge man and there were two things you did not fool with. My Mom and his razor. Not necessarily in that order.
While he was talking to the owner we would look around. That was one of my favorite places to go. They sold Tobacco there also. I remember the smell, it was great.
    Does anyone remember those shops?

Thanks SMOKE, BroJohn made the offer but I had to decline, but if I don't find mine in a month or two, I might ask him if the offer still stands.
This new razor that I have is doing a great job, it is my learning curve that may be in question. Just have to remember not to press down.
My aim now is to make the "USED RAZOR BANK" as described here on B&B, I'll take care of that today.
