Default Question about my newly acquired Friodur razor

Thank you in advance for all the help. I recently acquired a Friodur 72 1/2 straight razor from my grandfather. The blade is stamped J.A. Henckels. I'm wondering if this is a good blade to begin my foray into straight razor shaving with? Also, how does this blade stack up against a Dubl Duck or Dovo?

    Thanks again.

You have a very fine razor, assuming it is in good condition. I have a Duck and a Dovo, both fine shavers, but I don't have a Friodur Henckels that I can compare with. I do know that those who have them love them.

Indeed you have a good razor assuming it is in good shape. The straight razor forums, as here, go through phases. For quite awhile Henkels friodur razors were getting obscene prices (and in those days nobody seemed to give Dovo the respect they deserved).
Here's my take, and I have Dovo's, Wonderedges, and Friodurs....that Friodur will shave as good as just about anything you can get, but take a little more work on the hones IMHO. Once "there" however, they keep their edge for considerably longer.
Drop the 20 bucks send it to Lynn Abrams or whoever you choose that offers such service, have it sharpened and go for it. I coveted getting a Friodur for quite a while before I actually got my first one, at considerable price. The one you have being from your grandfather makes it worth all the much more, IMHO.
    Great razors.
