Polishing/etching question

Hey gentlemen,

Will MAAS damage an etching on an antique blade? It's a strong etching. I'm just worried that when I try to get some of the blackness off of the blade I might take some of the etching along too...

Does anyone have experience with this?

I don't know about Maas but I've used Simichrome without any issues. Don't hold me to it though.
