Default Interesting Question for Wet Shavers

Just something that's been in my mind for a while... Before discovering 'propper' wet shaving, I used a cartridge then an electric. I had redness and irritation all the time. I remember thinking and also saying on several occassions "I wish there was a pill I could take to stop my facial hair growing"...

Now that I've started wet shaving I do enjoy it. I still occassionally get a poor shave with irritation for no apparent reason, but things are a lot better than before.

So... If a pill became available that stopped your beard growing and gave you BBS without the effort, would any of you take it?... or is the shave as much fun as the result of the shave?

no way. the shave is far better than the actual result. for me at least.

i relish that time to myself to clear my head. especially with a straight, its a good 20-30 mins where im concentrating, but not thinking at all. very relaxing. zen shaving!

bbs is nice too though :P

    easy to answer.

IF I was still buying plastic razors and canned goo, I would take the pill.

If the pill came out today, with me knowing of real Shaving Soap and Cream, no thank you, unless it would just hit the few problem areas.

Of course not; if it comes in pill form there will be a side effect...

Prewt, exactly the same here... Without my problem areas on my neck shaving would be 100% bliss... It's still a good 99% though, and perfection in anything is hard to find.

Interesting question indeed. I think reception to a pill would relate to the way we have been brought up, to the extent that you could blame it on stereotypes, marketing, culture, whatever.

Products already exist for (semi)permanent facial hair removal, but they are seemed primarily for female consumption and use, where the idea is to look as if you have never grown a hair (in this case, in the face) ever in your life. Depilatory products are for women what pattern baldness remedies are for men, from the absurd to the practical.

We may all be looking for that zen BBS every morning, but most men (of course there are always exceptions in this big wonderful world of ours) enjoy the idea of being able to grow a beard and be able to shave it the most manly way possible without slicing ourselves.

Why, that I don't know, but I do know that given the option I would not want a creme, or a pill, or a wax, that would give me a permanent baby face. Have I been 'sold' on the daily shave ritual, you betcha.

Besides, what would I do with all this new stuff.

Never is the answer to your question.

For me, shaving is like Tai Chi - it's a relaxing time that also is good for you. And when you are finished, you also have a daily chore finished.

Before brush and mug, I'd have taken the pill in a minute. I went through the same progression as you--cartdridge, electric, DE. Hated shaving in step one, never liked in step two, actually look forward to it now. No pill for me, thanks.

It is called X-Lax. Get the chocolate ones, that way you can chow down on them without that chalky taste. A case or two should work fine. Weight loss never tasted so good.
I'd splurge on the super soft bathroom tissue for this one if I were you.

If it worked for my head as well, you bet!

Although I do enjoy shaving, I wouldn't mind not having to do it.

No way. Gotta have the mustache. Besides the shave is to fun to give up. Now you come up with a male birth control beer and we'll talk.

The 20 or so minutes it takes me in the morning to prep and shave is heaven on earth. It really starts the day off right. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

If taking the pill meant giving up my mutton chops there's no way I'd take it.

Besides, every dollar I spend on shaving is a dollar less I spend on beer, single malt scotch, or pipe tobacco... and that makes my wife very happy.

    Never.

    I enjoy shaving.

I enjoy the option for some Saturday night stubble too.
