    Default Adam's Apple Problems

Hey guys! Got a question. Been wet shaving with a DE for about a year now and get great results everytime, but have to resort to using a M3 to touch up adams apple area everytime. No matter what I do, if I use my DE in this spot, I get a nick almost everytime. And...if I just use the DE on this spot, I cant get it to shave close. Also.....no matter what method I use, I get redness on Adam's Apple. I dont mind using a Mach3 to touch up but was just wondering if anyone had some advice or having same problems.

    My typical routine:

    Shower and wash face
    Proraso Pre-Post
    Apply Cream or Soap
WTG/XTG/ATG, rinsing and re-lathering in between passes
    Touch-up adam's apple with Mach3
    Warm and cold water rinse
    alum block
a/s splash followed by a balm in the cooler months

For me, this works great and I get BBS evertytime, but that damn adams apple! And Its not even a large apple, just hard to shave around.

    Thanks, -Pat

I never shave over the Adam's apple directly, I always pull the skin sideways, first on one side, then on the other, and shave next to the Adam's apple. So all skin gets shaved this way but my razor does not touch the Adam's apple.

Besides pulling the skin, which does work, Mantic recommmends in one of his famous videos that you swallow and try to "hold the swallow" (if I remember the expression correctly). It does wonders for that area.

I tried to do that, but I found it rather uncomfortable ("swallowing" without anything there to be swallowed is difficult for me, "holding the swallow" feels unnatural, and I like to be able to breathe while shaving). So I prefer the skin pulling method.

I prefer the pulling method for the area around the Adam's apple.

I gently pull the skin from side to side and hold a swallow just long enough to make the pass. BBS? well not always but getting cut/nicked vs bbs to me is just not worth it.

What type of DE are you using; fixed head or adjustable?

Fixed Parker razor and Sharp brand blades.

Pull the skin from side to side. Then shave as normal. I have a very prominent Adams Apple and it works very well. I don't like the 'hold a swallow' method.

    Hey Jet,

Sorry for the late reply. Instead of using a Parker, (fixed head), razor try an adjustable. Also try a different blade. There may be better blades out there for your face.

Do you know the direction that your whiskers grow around your Adams' Apple?

I know the direction, and if I go against it, I'll get a nick.

    Hope this helps.

just swallow some spit, hold it, shave.

unless you just can't stand to hold your breathe for 3 seconds.

Be as gentle as can be, using "negative" pressure, and go n to s and s to n a few times, relathering with brush in one hand, razor in the other, then be done with it. The neck requires an EXTREMELY light touch and plenty of relathering, as well as proper angle.

And by the way, no one is going to get 6 inches away from your face in bright light and inspect your adam's apple. Relax.

"BBS" is a frame of mind, more than anything. It helps to not be completely idealistic, or at least it does for me.

    Good luck.
