Several "parts of the world" for me.

Augusta, GA
The Metro Coffee House (1054 Broad St.) - This place is a bar-slash-coffeehouse, so it has a rather irritating atmosphere. They're the only place in Augusta that consistently makes good espresso.

Aiken, SC
Espress-Oh! (4629 Jefferson Davis Hwy) - Just across the river from Augusta, and great coffee. Unfortunately, not open very late into the evening.

Pensacola, FL
The Drowsy Poet (86 Brent Ln) - One of my favourite coffee shops in the world! I've never gotten a bad shot there.

Ventura, CA
Palermo (321 E Main St) - Ironically, in Sunny CA, with so much yuppie presence, good coffee is hard to find. Avoid Bad Ass, and Simone's is decent depending on who's working the machine, but Palermo is, as my little sister would say, "many much yummy"!

Santa Barbara, CA
Coffee Cat (1201 Anacapa St) - Just off State Street, insanely close to The Book Den (whose proprietors are indulgent enough to permit browsing coffee-in-hand), and good, if not quite phenomenal, coffee.

Chattanooga, TN
Greyfriar's (406 Broad St) - Roasted in-house, well-trained staff, and gimme-another-like-that espresso!

In Palo Alto:

Caffe Del Doge is expensive but once a week a I get a french press and a croissant.

Douce France is a wonderful place for a cappuccino, and their pastries are first-rate. I'm not crazy about their plain ol' coffee, though.

In Mountain View:

Red Rock Coffee is a great place to sit with other nerds. Coffee is decent.

In San Francisco:

Cafe Murano is an unassuming neighborhood place that is conveniently located for me when I need to go into the city. Great coffee and scones.

Mojo Bicycle Cafe has a great Americano and I like the atmosphere, too.

Dolcezza It's in Georgetown on Wisconsin and Q, so it's away from most of the insanity that is Wisconsin and M in Georgetown. Best damn espresso in DC and the gelato oh, and the CHURROS!!

I'm not a coffee afficianado or anything, but I like Bigby (previously known as Beaner's).

They are found in the Lansing area, and are expanding really fast, and have locations pretty much all over the state.

But I have to say...the name change suit was kind of silly, in my opinion.

My favorite “Coffee Shop” is the Starbucks at Kendall Square in Cambridge; Massachusetts that is a 35-minute walk from my house.

The store is located near MIT with its surrounding Biotech and High Tech firms. There is outdoor seating and the vast majority of pedestrians and customers are researchers, students and employees of various firms.

I like to sit outside and have a large cup of dark roast with my Gloria Cubana #6 Series R cigar.
The result is 45 to 60 minutes with a great cup of “Joe” and a great cigar.
It works for me!

Now getting back to those mentioned customers and pedestrians. You know what is so nice about them. They don’t bother me! I’m left alone with my coffee, cigar and peace. This is one of the few “coffee shops” were I can sit outside and not be bothered by some “drunk” looking for money or a “nutcase” wearing tin foil on his head who want to discuss with me Alan Greenspan choose of colors for his flying saucer.

That is why it is my favorite coffee shop.

In Grandview Ohio it's Stauf's. They roast the beans on the premises. I used to work a few doors down the street from them, some mornings the smoke from the four roasters would be rolling down the street.

for those in metro atlanta, you have to check out Dancing Goats in downtown Decatur. It's the bomb. So dang tasty.
