    Default Trumper & Taylors

    Hi there.

My shaving is coming along leaps and bounds with the Progress, after a month I am now getting good shaves with no blood or discomfort. So the advice given by all you guys when I checked in was absolutley spot on! I thank you.

I am taking a trip to London next week and I have the strange feeling that I will be drawn to Jermyn Street where a lot of money will be spent in the Taylors and Trumpers shops, with probably a trip to Crabtree and Evelyn(interest in that shop again due to this forum ).

I have two questions and will be grateful for advice and opinion:

    1. Is it worth booking a shave at Trumpers or at Taylors?

    2. Does anyone know of place in the UK which stocks Colonel Conk products?

    Cheers

I have long given up on barbershop shaves although you might well have the experience of a lifetime if you get one in either of the shops in Jermyn Street. I have found, and so have many others here, that if you are proficient with a DE you are already experiencing an excellent shave. I wouldn't expect a barber, who doesn't know your face, to give you a shave that surpasses my own anymore.

As far as Col. Conk is concerned, I don't think it's sold in the UK at all but I'm happy to be proved wrong as it will allow me to get some!
    Cheers

I've had shaves at both Trumper's Mayfair store and and Taylor's. Both were good but nothing better efficacy wise than what I can do own my own. For me it was more the whole experience that was the pleasure. Taylor's is more economical and Trumper's offers a better "experience." If you've never done it before and you're there with the time to spare I highly recommend Trumper.

20 years ago Trumpers had a shaving school. give them a ring when you get there and see if they still do

The main trumpers store is in curzon st which is a 10 minute walk from jermyn st.

    enjoy your trip

As somebody who was there last month, I can confirm Trumpers do still have a shaving school. I had a 90-minute straight lesson and was very impressed. It was certainly pricey, but then as a one-off treat (and learning experience) I reckon it was worth it.

I think you should definately go to either Trumper's or Taylors to get a shave. I doubt that you will get a shave that's that much better (or even any better) than you can do on your own, but you can't get the experience or the atmosphere at home that you can in on of those places. If I had the opportunity I do it no questions asked. I'm sure the quality of the shave will be much better than you can do at home, because you won't have to do it yourself, you'll be able to relax and be pampered.
