Default How can I get rid of gold plating

without hurting my blade? I hope it doesn't sound to crazy, but I just don't dig the gold plating on my Dovo Astrale, to me a pure silver blade is more aesthetically pleasing. I have a dremel tool but am reluctant to use it just in case that would really mess things up.

Dremel and polishing compound worked for me unfortunately.

for me, did not even need the dremel. removed with MAAS and rag on one occasion, and on another electrical tape while honing. both work pretty well unfortunately.

MAAS and a rag. Just make sure not to get the polishing compound on the edge or else you will ruin it and need to re-hone

Sometimes boiling will do the job. Like everyone else, I learned the hard way.

thanks! I'll give these a try. I feel like the only one that doesn't like the gold! By the way, what does MAAS stand for? (On that note, is there a tutorial to all the acronyms used here? I find myself cornfused at times.)

Gosh, all I have to do USE a razor with gold wash and you can kiss that stuff good bye. I do agree with you however, I prefer the look when it is not there. Brasso polishing compound on a cloth will buff it right off and leave a nice shiny silver.

No need for dremel. Just regular polish and a rag and it is GONE.

Has anyone here ever tried to do their own etching or engraving on a blade restoration? I was thinking of taking an eBay beater and trying the DIY salt-water DC electricity method to put some art on a blade.
