Default Best Shows Currently on Television

I, like many of us, am continually disappointed by the total lack of intelligence and ingenuity on television but there are a few gems out there.

My favorites are (in no particular order)

    Dexter
    Pushing Daisies
    Psych
    How I Met Your Mother
    Californication
    Criminal Minds
    Eli Stone

and of course some perennial favorites for me, The Simpsons and Family Guy
    Tim

Tim, glad to see that our opposing views on "Seinfeld" don't define us as uh...consumers of telvision.

All of the following shows are unmeasurable in their awsomeness:

    Seinfeld
    Curb Your Enthusiasm
    Dexter
    Californication
    Weeds
    Sleeper Cell
    Big Love
    Brotherhood
    The Tudors
    The Sopranos
    Nip/Tuck
    Hell's Kitchen
    Mad Men
...and I'm sure the list goes on. BTW, did anyone see the pattern of Showtime series in there?

P.S. In my Netflix queue are Psych, The Wire, and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, which I've heard were also very good.

    pushing daisies is great,
how i met your mother was great, but now its in decline, its at the point where either the characters grow or become a caricature of themselfs,

No. An example of that would be bad television.

I don't watch much TV but I do try to catch House every week.

Of the few episodes I've seen, Mad Men is quite good.

    NCIS - just pure storytelling
Life - best written TV show available today
Law & Order - a bit long in the tooth but still worth watching, new season in Jan.
Corner Gas - a comedy classic from Canada (on WGN Chicago)

We still watch CSI but the scripts, beginning last year, have not been good and the cast looks like they are just mailing it in.

    New shows I'm trying out:

Fringe - mad scientist inventing solutions every episode, pretty girl lead, just fun
Eleventh Hour - eccentric scientist solving crimes for the FBI, so far so good
The Mentalist - ex-charlatan psychic solving crimes for the Calif. Bureau of Investigation, so far so good

    Looking forward to:

    Leverage - with Timothy Hutton
L&O Criminal Intent - with Jeff Goldblum joining the cast

    In no particular order:
    The Unit
    Pushing Daisies
    Mad Men
Life - Dexterous, Life is excellent but Mad Men has much better writing. Life is more about the twists of the story.
    Lost (when it returns)
Law & Order (all of them)
    NCIS

I watched the first two teaser episodes of Crash last night available on Direct TV VOD or Netflix VOD. They look promising; unfortunately I just dumped my Starz/HBO subscription. Guess I'll have to wait for DVD's before seeing anymore.

Also I really like Rescue Me and the first couple seasons of The 4400 were pretty good (gotten kind of lame lately though). Other than that I don't watch too much episodic drama TV. The Planet Earth series on Discovery HD was amazing.
