Yes, I have a 1909 single ring old type in my extended rotation. It shaves well but has a tendency to 'nip' a bit, so you have to be attentive. Works just fine with modern blades, a century after it was made.

My go to razor is a 1920 Old Type Bulldog. I also have a 1919 Old Type Standard like the one you pictured that I use occasionally.

I don't know if mine are that exact model, but I have a couple like that that I have used. One is good, one is only ok. I didn't realize that they were that old...

I spent all weekend growing my whiskers and had an excellent shave Tuesday morning with a 1906 Single Ring with a Wilkinson Sword blade. What an awesome shave!

Possibly my best shave ever, in fact.

I am looking forward to cleaning up my NEW and Goodwill razors to see how they perform.

I have a 1910 single ring that, if you can believe it, is crack free and with no bent combs. It is shaves like nobody's business, definately my favorite shaver.

I've still got my eyes peeled for a single-ring. It will come to me.

Kazeryu - my Goodwill (it may be a reverse Goodwill, the diamonds are on the top of the base and fit into the head) was a surprise. It may be my best Gillette after my '48 Aristocrat: smooth, close shaver but not aggressive.

I have a couple of NEW razors but haven't really delved into them. Shaved with one a few weeks back and remember it being mediocre. I'll revisit them, though.

I am looking forward to trying some News and Old Types. Got a Bostonian recently, and hope to pick up a single ring soon.

    Thanks,

OneRand, if you haven't shaved with the Bostonian you need to. That is my second favorite razor behind the 1910 Single Ring. I have found that if I didn't own anything else the Bostonian and the single ring would go to my grave with me. Good finds!!!!!!

I am quite happy with my 1912 single ring. It has me on the lookout for other old Gillettes.

I to have a number of old types and yes, they are a main stay in my rotation. Like BroJohn said, just keep an eye on it because they do bit if your not paying attention.

I have this one, but have not used it yet. I was polishing it last night and found it has a crack in the handle about 1/2" long just below the ring. I found it when I noticed that the handle was turning as I was polishing. Any way to repair this? or is it just a lookie now?

I want to use my Bostonian, but have not had time to clean/disinfect. Its a solid bar one.

I have hear (not done myself) of a few fellows using high heat/strength epoxy to do the job. Personally if I were to repair one I would use something along the lines of Loctite 442, industrial strength super bond glue. But be very careful.

One more question: Is there a difference between a single ring and a 1918/1920's standard? Look the same to me.

I may have mis-represented the bostonian.

It's this one, 1930's common bar

That is not a Bostonian. The Bostoian or New uscrews from the bottom. That looks a lot like my 36 Red and Black.
