This week I would like to take a look at and discuss the Schick Adjustable prototype.

This invention has to do with a safety razor of the type in which single-edge blades are adapted to the inserted endwise into the head of the razor from a separate blade filled magazine and clamped in shaving position in the head in readiness for us.

The primary purpose of the invention is to provide, in a safety razor of the type described, new and improved means for quickly a accurately adjusting by means of a readily accessible indicating dial the position of the guard relative to the cutting edge of the blade, whereby to vary at any time the closeness with which the razor will shave in accordance with the wish of the user.

One of the big differences, of course – with the prototype, in comparison to the production model, is the huge adjusting wheel- large metal dial, while the production model has a small plastic dial.

Cutting-Edge: “It is a rare form, in some ways similar to the 195 Gillette prototype- that it is different with some features better than the production model. I have absolutely no idea if it was ever marketed, but, I have seen three of them in my 5 years of extensive Schick collection, so that has to tell you something about how rare it is. Only one of the three came with a case, that bears unique logo and markings, and that makes a real interesting set.

Of course, the Schick adjustable launched around 1965, preceded the L model (contrary to common belief), and lasted almost two decades with minor modifications. The Schick adjustable is one of the greatest shavers in my opinion, ever produced.”

Very interesting Ray. Thanks for that. I have about 5 Injectors in my collection, the only adjustable being a PAL. I do enjoy shaving with the Injectors and they provide great shaves.

My favorite is the Schick L-1, followed by the Hydro-Magic.

Beautiful.

The Schick adjustable is my favourite injector - the hydromagic heads are a close second.

Injectors give great shaves and you can get inexpensive blades for $4.50 for 20 (plus shipping) from Ted Pella.

My first razor was a Schick Adjustable with a black handle. Not one of the beauties pictured above, though.

I loved how that little cartridge box would click in! I recall it being a pretty darned good razor, too.

I just snagged one BIN on eBay for the seemingly ridiculously low price of $20.

BTW, not asking so I can flip this or make a profit here or elsewhere and the answer need not be in terms of $$. Just wondering how special/unusual these are.

Thanks for the resurrection of this old thread. Learned a little bit from this.

I have two of the regular production Schick adjustables. One cost me $29 shipped, the other was just given to me. Watching them on eBay and B/S/T makes me think that typical prices for one in good condition without the case range from $20-$35 shipped, so you'd have to think that a rare prototype would typically go for more. If you got a BIN of $20 (with or without shipping?) either I'm way off or the seller didn't have a clue.

I suppose it is a horrible sign that I initially tried to figure out how you were linking a razor to a Roethlisberger.
