SE Blades?

Anyone else produce them (at reasonable prices)?

ASR have them under several brand names I get mine from CVS mostly... they work great for me.. Dave swears my Pella's but I have not tried them as of yet,

I belive so... I also have some treet that are ASR.... I picked up some gem blue star blades the other day that just have made in usa on them.. they are asr also.

Most of the brand names mentioned above; Gem, Treet, Personna and Pal are brands that ASR has used for decades. Also, many of the store brands are, in fact, made by ASR.

I don't want to be taken as saying that all of these blades are the same. Certainly, over the years, both Gillette and ASR have made more than one blade in a given point in time. I know that ASR currently makes various types of SE blades, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, coated and uncoated, etc. Consequently, it is hard to say for sure that blade "A" is the same as blade"B" just because we know it's made by ASR.

If you go to the Ted Pella website, you'll find several varieties of Gem (ASR) blades being sold. These again range from black steel to stainless and uncoated to coated and also some actual configuration diffences such as rounded corners as opposed to square corners.

I'm sure there are also some foreign manufactured blades being sold in various stores which are not produced by ASR. Some of these may be fine, but so far, I haven't been able to read much about them to know their quality. We all know that many of the foreign DE blades are very good and some are not.

I guess the best bet is to find one you really like and stick with it. The nice thing about Ted Pella is that you can select just which blade you want, knowing it's material and coating. The down side of buying from TP is having to buy a large number of blades at a time.

Did I do the math right.. box of 200 works out to like ohhhhh 800 shaves for under $35 so about what $.04 a shave.

Just ordered a box of Dave's recommended 121-3 blades. Looking forward to yet another neat shaving experience with razors that are nearly a century old!

The initial cost puts a lot of guys off but they are well worth it, and in the long run they are the cheapest blades I have found.
It's not a bad idea to palm strop a fresh Pella blade, they can be a little rough the first shave or two. (Many thanks to Dave for this video teaching me how!)

I look at it this way, 2+ years worth of razor blades for roughly the equivalent of 3 months worth of Mach 3 blades.

Dunno who manufactures them but I use mostly the PFTE Gem blades from Ted Pella, sold on their website. They cost $33.85 for a pack of 200 blades. Shipping is extra, but even with that on top, the blades are still very good value.

The Ted Pellas are made by ASR (American Safety Razor Company), which is the same people who made the Gem, Pal, and supposedly Treet blades.

I can verify that the Treet blades I picked up the other weekend from Rite-Aid are manufactured by ASR and are PTFE coated.
