    Default skin stretching...

Okay, so I definately need to stretch my neck to get a better shave, I can practice all I want, but once the creme or soap is applied my face becomes way to slippery to start tugging on it the way I need to. Do you guys who do this thing regularly just lather up a small section of your face and go at it? I am really hoping that there is a better way than to do that. There has got to be some super secret double probation trick for just this sort of thing.

Hold a damp washcloth in your off hand and use it to stretch the skin. It works great.

Also, do you switch hands when you shave. I did it for the first time this morning and it worked out great!. I'm going to be shaving more and more with both hands now. It wasn't has hard as I thought it would be.

Here's a link you may find helpful. It's a video of Lynn from the StraightRazorPlace.com and he demonstrating a straight razor, but as he goes through he talking about stretching the skin and you can see how he does it to get an extremely close shave. I think a lot of the principles would transfer over to a DE shave, some already have for me.

What exactly is skin stretching? I'm assuming its as simple as streching the skin in the area you are shaving to yeild a closer shave?

    Hi Bob,
Here's another thread discussing skin stretching and an exceptionally incisive post.

    Default no can do!!

I don't know how you guys stretch, because for me it's absolutely impossible. If you guys only knew how much pain stretching causes me, you'd freak.

Ah Jeff! It wouldn't be a skin stretching thread without your (unfortunate ) reverie. Certainly wish we could figure out just what is awry there. Must be those Canadian climes..

Ron, it must be the construction of my tissues of my skin, or something like that. As long as I don't try to stretch, I'm ok, if I try, oh boy, oh boy..... does it hurt.

jeff im just curious does it hurt to make wierd facial exsprecions (sp?), or just when you use your hands to stretch, also in the winter every time i flexed my shoulders or back i would get a burning pain in the skin on my back. i finally figured out this was due to the dry winter air. i finally found that useing a different soap + lotion on my back solved this. the pain was bad (enough to wake me up if i did it while sleeping) so im pretty sure that what is wrong. try different soap and lotion combinations and see if you can find one that works for you.

Mathew, I don't know why it should be so painful, it just is. I went to 2 top neurologists here who took x rays, and they were absolutely flabbergasted. They couldn't give me an answer that makes any sense, no damage was found, nothing. It doesn't hurt me fortunately to make facial expressions, but if I use my hand to try to stretch, the pain is unbearable.

does moving (displacing) the skin also hurt, seems unlikely since it is part of the normal range of motion for skin to move, does it feel tight and unmovable, is it only on the face, does it hurt to stretch skin in other places, ie., is it that you are recovering from razor burn..

have you tried going to a dermatologist? like i said it sounds like the problem i was having. for some reason the skin on my back was always dry and it felt like it was tearing to stretch it. im surethey could give you a lotion or somthing that would make the skin flexable again.

Guys, I never thought of going to a dermatologist, it might be a good idea, maybe a good one here can suggest something.
