I've been saying for a while I don't like Wilkinson blades well I'm altering this slightly.
Previously I had only used WS blades made in Brazil that are commonly available down here and gotten rough, painful shaves with them. However today I had planned on using my Merkur 38c since I had not used it in almost 2 months and some German WS blades from my West Coast Shaving sampler because I was going to see if they were any better. I had it sitting by the sink ready to go in the morning.
In the end I slept in and had minimal time to get ready so I jumped up and decided to shave first for some reason (I always shave after showering) I rubbed some hot water into my face, worked in some Proraso pre shave cream for about 1 min and let it sit on my face while I got my Simpson Chubby 1 ready and started to face lather with some Truefitt and Hill luxury shaving soap. After almost going for my reliable Fatboy with a Dorco I decided to go ahead with my Wilkinson experiment anyway; 1 pass WG a quick relather and 1 pass AG and I had a DFS that was good enough for work in only 10 min with absolutely no irritation and only 1 tiny nick on my chin which was due to a rushed technique, I flew through the shower, got dressed and was out the door in 20 min total.
If I get this sort of performance every day it looks like German Wilkinsons may become my go to blade (which until now have been Dorcos and Derbys). I must try and get some NOS English Wilkinsons and see how they compare.
So again, Brazillian WS blades are overpriced crap but if you see the German blades jump at the chance.
