Question Need some advice on buying another DE

Hi all, I just returned from basic training in the USAF. I took my Merkur HD with me only to have it tossed in the garbage during the first shakedown. So after 7 weeks of dragging a Mach 3 across my face 2 times a day and using goo from a can, I am happy to be looking for a new DE. The Merkur did an "OK" job for me. I tried various blade combos only to find the WalMart Personnas to be the best for me. The issue is that my hair is very tough-to the point it destroys shirt collars usually in a matter of months. I've been eyeballing Gillette Fat Boys, but was wondering what all of you would suggest. I've read the razor reviews, but nothing seems to jump out at me. I'm looking for BBS daily and as little irritation as possible. Any input would be truly appreciated!

You may want to try some of the older style gillettes----big fellow or bulldogs. They are pretty aggressive but also shave very nice.

They did the same to my PAL Stainless Adjustable; then issued us Schicks which the DIs also trashed and ordered us to buy Techs in the exchange. Some things never change; SNAFU. I use Super Speeds exclusively with a preference for the Red Tip but all do well for me. I prefer one-piece razors in that they seem to be more durable and there are no pieces to lose or threads to wear or strip.

I thank you for serving in the military. I too served but if not for the draft I would not have enlisted.

I'm curious . . . why'd it get tossed? Are loose razor blades not permitted?

Nothing against the DE (I like my tech for a quick/forgiving shave), but SE's are where it's at now. They're all the rage!

Get used to it! Suicide Awareness is an annual training requirement. You'll get the briefing every year, or do the CBT on Suicide Prevention. And yes, they don't allow anything that's sharp because there are a few non-hackers every year that feel like Club Med (USAF BMT) is simply too demanding and they try and off themselves!

    Welcome to the Air Force!

There was one in my flight that was on a suicide waiver....It amazes me that the youngersters (I'm a bit older than the usual recruit) don't realize that BMT is all about listening with TWO ears, keeping your mouth shut, and doing what you're told when told to do so.

Ooh, Romeo's. I need to go pick up a few Ashton VSG's.

Funny, Can't have anything sharp but they issued me a M16 that never leaves your side for 3 months plus SOI.
