06 Mengyang Guoyan Purple leaf cake -

This has a really nice mouthfeel...though it may not have the greatest range of flavors...the ones that are there are quite nice.
 
'11 YS Wuliang. Was quite good, if not to my taste. Vegetal quality was less, and there was some light florals. Good pungency and spice. Light qi. Very good buy if you like the taste, but I wonder if it's not more prudent to sample the '09 first, to get a slight idea of what a bit of aging does.

'11 Puersom Yibang. Was very good itself. 3.5g in half-gaiwan. Has that wierd Puersom base taste. Otherwise it taste very much like the YS '09 fall Ding Jia Zhai, with the florals and caramel cut down, and a nice, fat patty of shenginess in the middle. Price to quality though, I'll take the XZH '10 Man Ning every time as it's much more interesting taste and good floral elements. One could hope for good transformations in flavor and mebbe a bit of added qi. Not that I'd buy either, even if I had money for expensive tea. I'd just call up Guang and special order one of the XZH '10 special productions.
 
Two XZH teas of the day, fanboy I am...

'07 Fall Yangta. Was quite good, with good aroma, clear development of aged wood and oiled leather on the top taste (unlike, say Taihe '05 or '07 Kuzhushan samples), good length, activity in the throat, and decent depth in the taste. Decent qi. Usual length of a Jing Gu session, but more dynamic than Jing Gus usually are.
'07 Xishangmeishao. Blew the earlier tea out of the water. Interesting that it was only $7 more at original pricing. Less fruity, delicate. Much louder and more coherent unique top taste, with layers like the Treasures of Five Mountains, but thicker slices. Can have a great deal of those camphor-cologne bursts. Good huigan and other aftertastes, sophisticated aroma, and retaining quite the elevating qi that lifts the mood. Very dynamic session to about 11, and a bunch of low, soft tastes afterwards. Does tend to be notably, if not objectionably sour, and does also have an acid bite. Sometimes the sweet sensation and the other stuff combines for a pretty complex mouth sensation. Loved it, and looks to be aging well.
 
Two more expensive teas of the day...

'06 YQH Gushu Chawang. Light, sophisticated taste, powerful whole-body qi and hits the throat hard. After it fades, the remaining tea was still interesting, including some very nice woody aromas.

Thinking about GN?'s comments about the preference for the heavier CGHT Ban'E again...I think I'd still stand by the YQH. Not as heavy taste, not as wild a ride in the first infusions, but I feel it *should* age pretty good, given the kind of potency I get, and with 143 extra grams, it's probably heavier on the scales for me. The thing is, while it wasn't such a bad deal at $135 (at worst, I paid about $15 more than I should, which is no biggie for that much money), the opportunity costs were utterly massive. I could have been getting more XZH bricks, buying more taichi LBZ, more DinJin Nuerchas (even if you don't like it, that stuff is pretty underpriced even at eyewatering $125. It's also amazing how long that Yiwu Chawang has lasted @ $125 as well), and gotten stuff that's much harder to get at quality after the big price rises of '11 winter and '11 May. After all, good 6ftm stuff could be had from Douji @ China ChaDao, or Shikunmu @ YS. Thinking on it, the CGHT could be substituted by the original Ban'E!

'05 Taihe maocha. It was only okay. Decent thickness and texture. Good complexity, especially deeper into the session, but the top taste just does not compel--sour (which fades) hay. Much prefer the XZH '07 Dabaicha if comparing last brewings of each to each other...
 
Yesterday I had two nice teas to brake in my new aged sheng 75 ml yixing . Woke up long before the sun to have a decent session with a 96 8582. This may not have been the best choice for my first tea in the new pot even though I did pre season it for two days it still felt a tiny bit muted. when it started to fade (kinda early ) I moved it over to my zhuni pot for some extended brewing.
Next as I chipped off a pot full of Heng li Chang. Wow I used to much leaf very intense! Water in tea out for the first twelve brews. I need to buy another one of these because I love drinking this now but I can only imagine what this tea will be like in ten to fifteen years and I wanna make sure I have some around. Also after kind doing a rough comparison I'm starting to think that EOT's 70's Da Ye might be a Bulang. You can still taste the bitterness even after forty years. I think that is why this tea has not fallen in to the monochromatic blandness of other similar aged loose tea's in comparison with cakes of a similar age.

I thinks I will Have a refresher coarse with the Gushu Cha Wang today, while backround brewing my Heng li chang. Which after over twenty rounds the infusion time is still under thirty seconds

Hold the phone I found a tooth like object in my 06 Yang Qing hao Gushu cha wang. To be more precise it looks like a rodent tooth it is definitly bone of some sort. This is the first thing to come out of a cake that has actually grossed me out.
I'm going to giving this a good rinse or two . I'll try to post pics of the object later with tasting notes.


I wonder if by taking the tooth out I'm going to miss some integral component in the cha wang blend. I could be missing out on some really unique flavor profiles I;ve always wondered what plague tastes like.:drool:
 
06 Douji Organic Old Tree of Yiwu

Has some nice mature flavors with essentially no storage funk. The most detracting feature was its lack of durability...though I still enjoyed the session.
 
Hopefully plaque is the worst of it and there is plenty of that. Great session all around the I would say that the YQH is the better tea. But the flavor profile of the CGHT LBZ leans more toward my end of the spectrum. at least untill it decends into the lao man'ee bitterness. but I can't seem to get that tooth out of my mind while drinking it. I put about fifty grams in the compost pile. I was not really expecting animal parts in my Yan qing hao that seems more like what should be showing up in CNNP

I remember last time being somewhat underwellmed by this tea which I now atribute to my horrible gong fu. The tea made is markedly better by even the minor improvement to my brewing skills. This may be the last time I try this tea given the dramatic price increases so I am savoring every sip.

2010 EoT Bangwai -

This is in the midst of changing. Some of the layers of complexity are absent at the moment....also seems a bit thin.
 
Blended tea today...
1.6g YS '09 Fall Ding Jia Zhai
.8g Puersom Yibang
2.4g '06 special production Manzhuang
2.2g YS '11 Wuliang

This blend was very good. In particular, it suggests to me that Wuliang and Manzhuang tea might make good blends, mebbe with bit of other stuff as buffer. It was very complex, and only a little inchoate. Decent qi, wonderful blend of spice, savory, and fruity--like peach salsas. Also excellent mouthfeel. Gloopy texture near the end. Dramatic camphor episodes as well.
 
2005 dayi purple tuochaA lot of plantation roughness gives you cotton mouth and is kindof thin. Which is to bad because under all of that plantation abrasivness The flavors are really excellent herbal Tobaco and flashes of fruitiness

'10 Nadacha Manmai. Delicious and floral today. Not much huigan

'10 YS Yongxueshan. Put some chunks of teabagmatter in. First couple of brews were eyecrossing in bitterness and caffeine. A couple of brews were reasonably nice, though. It's a shame most of the bing is full of that debris, and hopefully, I was just unlucky with bottom-of-the-bag material instead of Scott being cheated.
 
08 Hai Lang Hao Lao Banzhang Lao Man'ee cake unlike the 05 CGHT cake of the same blend the Man''ee bitterness hits you from the jump but their is plenty of LBZ flavors which over power it for the first five or so infusions but still stay interesting well up past ten to fifteen infusions the dry leaves didn't look overly special but by the time I gave up on around 15 or so I found some gigantic veiny furry buds of the kind that you only seem to find from LBZ.

06 da yi 7582 I bought this bc I loved the 98 that I tried. I geuss I could see similarities but its gonna need allot time and humidity. Ive never seen so many stems in a dayi cake before.

80's Guang yun loose from finepuer. Way better than either of the two 90's gyg cakes that i have tried. The tea liquor is a beautiful reddish brown. It has smooth mellow taste if not the most complex it is still very enjoyable. The qi is what makes this tea. It is warming my torso and forming a tingling halo around my head .This makes me wanna give the sixties GYG at EOT another try which at the time I was not impressed with but now I kinda feel like I botched it using to high of a water to leaf ratio.

Yongxueshan today. Betters low expectations. Going to try and drink this up.

GN? Can you put a money difference on the hedons between the two Ban'Es?
