    Default Lathering Van der Hagen

    Another poll! Polls are fun.

How does everyone like to lather Van der Hagen Select? I currently have it melted into a small bowl, so thus far I've been experimenting with face lathering and bowl lathering (in a separate bowl). Another option is to melt it into my large mug, and just lather on the soap (which is what I currently do with Col Conk).

My Rooney 3/1 Super is a little hard to load with soap sometimes because it's so soft; I almost think I should have bought a cheaper, stiffer brush. (Almost.)

What!?!?!?!?! The Rooney 3/1 should be one of the easiest brushes to load up with soap!?!?!?!?!?

I like lathering on the soap in a large mug. I do this with nearly all of my soaps.
    Relax...Take it easy...Enjoy the lather.

Well, to be fair, I haven't tried it with Tabac yet. The VDH seems to load up pretty well -- at least, it does compared to Col Conk, which just wants to lather as soon as the brush touches it.

Weird, the Rooney 1/1 and 3/1 (in super) are typically considered around here to be the best of breed (for the price) soap brushes. I think they are a touch too dense, which is why I no longer own one ... but it lathered the daylights out of any soap it touched. Keep in mind with such a dense knot the brush will tend to "hog" the lather. It is possible you have a boat load of lather, it may just all be stuck in the knot. Giving the knot a squeeze will force the lather out.

But to get back to your original question, I find face lathering works better ... especially a Rooney.

Load brush, face lather all the way.
As soon as I took up face lathering with all soaps I wondered why I hadn't been doing it the whole time.

I melted a puck of the deluxe into an old deodorant container. Works wonderfully as a shave stick and face lathering.

Pink or White: Lather on the puck in a mug.

Glycerine: Load brush and face lather.

    that's what works for me.

I also turned it into a shave stick and it works pretty good. Overall though, I prefer a bowl with everything I use.
