    Default Machinists term question

Ok, this is a weird question for any machinists out there.

When referring to a machine screw thread, like "2-56", how do you SAY it?
Is it, "two dash fifty six", "two fifty six", "number two, fifty six"?

(Personally, I go to the hardware store and say "Gimme one of these", or "I need one that fits this hole")

I'm helping someone write a script for a instructional video, so I want to make sure I get it right.

I believe it is specified (verbally) like this:

    a #2-56 is a "#2 - coarse thread"
    and the #2-64 is a "#2 - fine thread"

Note that I am a Mech-Eng not a machinest but deal with them frequently.

With a #2 screw size, slick50's probably right... "number 2, coarse thread"

but I don't really know - we don't do any work with electrical components that require such small screws. With larger screws you just say or "eight thirty two" or 'quarter twenty'.

I would say "I need a ten, twenty four by inch and a half machine screw".
    "I can't stand rude behavior in a man...I won't tolerate it".
