    Default Joris Shave soap:)

I just picked up a refill of this at Colonial Drug in Boston and was kind of scared b/c of its $22 price tag(for a refill puck!) The Plisson puck they had was only $18 which is reasonable. Keep in mind that I had never heard of this stuff but the can looked cool and it smelled great!

Well I get it back home and come to find out that it doesnt fit in the typical rounded bowl(AOS, TOBS, T&H, etc) so I rig it into an old Dr. Harris SC container nice and snug Gave it a trial run and holy cow! I know this is not tallow based but it is triple milled, and this gave just as good if not better shave than my Floris Elite. This stuff is class act stuff! The smell is just breathtaking! Floral but masculine as well. Great glide, moisturizing abilities, and latherability were great.

The 2 things wrong with this stuff is the availability and the price of the bowl it is made for here. The bowl is pretty but damn!

Has anyone else tried this, maybe in the boston area?

I've heard it's great stuff but $22 seems high. What does Colonial Drug get for DR Harris shaving soap? I'm from Boston and have never been to Colonial Drug!

You were illegally parked but managed to pick up a $22 shaving soap. That's when you know you've got it bad.

It looks like Pre de Provence. Tin can, triple milled with no tallow. I think both are made in France....Hmmmmmmm.

Actually mine came in the canister pictured above and is just a round bottom refill. I have the Pre De Provence and didnt see that version there:( I would have gotten that one if I could.

BTW: This is not related to Pre De Provence in no way... but is affiliated with Plisson.

This stuff sounds great. It's gotten some good reviews, too. Might have to check it out.

...cause that's just what I need. More shaving soap. At this rate I might run out by 2018. Better stock up.

Joris is indeed top notch. BTW how did you know it wasn't tallow based? It's been speculated for years that it WAS tallow based as the ingredients are not listed on the packaging anywhere. Recently though I had an email exchange with the people over at the site that sells it and they confirmed that it is indeed palm based and claim it always has been. I don't know if that's true though as my last cake seemed different.

I first used this stuff 4 to 5 years ago when they had it on clearance from the Belgian shoppe down in Texas I believe. It was being sold off at $7.00 a cake. What a steal it was. I loved it from the outset as it made some of the thickest, creamiest, most protective lather, ever. It still does but I actually find the AOS soap to be slightly better. And though it's from France it's actually made in England. I still have a puck and a half of it.

It's availability is a problem but now at least there is a website to order from. For years there wasn't and the only place that I knew of that sold it was Atkinsons's of Vancouver. Perhaps Colonial carried it but I had not heard that even from the people that frequented it.

I say give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I found the ingredients of the Plisson which wasnt tallow based so I just assumed. I did the research to no avail $7 a puck!!! Holy $%#@ price!!!! I thought $22 was a fair price!

Consider yourself lucky! Not only is Cambridge a driver's worst nightmare, but even double-parking spots can be hard to come by. If you ever go back, shoot me a pm. I know a reasonable (for Cambridge/Boston) lot very close to Colonial.

I foresee... ...a trip to Cambridge in my future...!

Hey, don't sweat it. Floris has a killer reputation and it sounds like you get on quite well with it. $22? Just try to keep track of how many times you use compared to the 2200 pennies. These milled soaps give a price to performance ratio that is simply not arguable till you get into the ultra pricey refills like Floris or Czech and Speake. Just enjoy it. You've got me wanting some, just from the pictures.

    Regards, Todd

I've used Joris for a couple of years now & it's probably the best triple milled soap I've ever used. It's just hard to come by sometimes. Everything said about it so far has been spot on but I also love it because it is basically a hypo-allergenic soap. It has just a clean soapy smell to me that shouldn't bother even the most sensitive skin.
