I hope the winner enjoys shaving with this....I doubt very much they would ever get that price again if they resold it.

This is a very fair price for this condition, with outer shipper, Dispenser holder and instruction!

That thing is beautiful. My wife would kill me.
Bah, I'm with you...crazy prices.
This is a perfect example of the difference between those who buy DEs to shave with and those who buy them to collect. For someone just looking for a daily shaver it would be ridiculous to pay that amount. For a collector though, the fact that it is a rather rare model in mint condition with the shipper means it is highly sought after, and therefore very valuable. Nothing wrong with either perspective IMHO. I only hope that the buyer is happy with his pretty new razor and is a member here who will post a lot more pics for those of us who don't collect but still love razor porn!
The buyer is a collector.....I doubt he bought it as a shaver. You'll get just as good a shave with a $20 Super Speed. As Achim stated, collectors will regularly pay these prices for a desirable razor, especially if it has the cardboard outer shipping box & the instructions. And could easily recoup his money if he wants.

I know people can pay what they want after all in some places it is still a free world.
The only concern i have with collecting razors is that outside the wet shaving community , razors are not worth much. And the only place that there seems to be a large wet shaving community is America .
Mint or not , take your razor to an antique fair or store & see what you get.
Anyway its only my opinion, hopefully i can still express one.
Cheers
+2. this reminds me of another post a little while back about how they think a razor sold for too much. If two people are in a bidding war and everyone here thinks $xxx.xx is as much as it should sell for, does that mean the the first bidder to reach that amount should get it because the other bidder says "Well that is as high as a couple people on B&B think it should sell for, so I am going to stop bidding even though I really want it." It may be too high for you (not talking about anyone specific here) to pay, but not for some else.
For a complete set in such condition is this price acceptable.

I'm looking for a Gillette cream colored dispenser made in Canada.
Meh, I dunno about that. If the guy has the money and that's the one that he really wants, he might think it's worth it to pay that much.
Sure you can get just as good of a shave with a cheaper razor, but people buy Mercedes and Porsches for daily drivers when they could buy a Camry or Accord.
What kind of razor was it and how much did it sell for? The ebay link above does not work for me.
Thanks,
John
Thanks Aaron!

Speaking as a collector, it doesn't really matter to me how the vintage DE razor market may fluctuate in the future. I have no intentions of ever selling my collection. I get a lot of enjoyment from them.
Were I ever to sell my razors, that is the last place that I would attempt to sell them. Only other collectors would appreciate them enough to pay a fair price. However, razors are not unusual in this regard.
I'm not aware of anyone having criticized you or your opinion. The fact that some have disagreed with your assessment of the value of that razor is certainly not in any way a personal attack.
Cheers

hehehe
Ok, now that I've got that out of my system... (North) America is the only place that seems to have a large wet-shaving community it's against the norm on this continent so we all like to glorify it a little.
As for collecting (and I don't collect anything but dust), I've seen the ugliest serving wares ever go for upwards of $2,000 per item at antique stores, so it doesn't seem that unreasonable that someone would be willing to pay $295AUD for a razor that appears to be in good shape. Value isn't always monetary and some things are purchased just because the person likes to have them. Hell, I met one guy that has literally hundreds of model/toy tractors in a room in his house. I'd rather stick the money into a mutual fund or something, but my point is that for some people that's a reasonable price.
Limecat can never die!!! Unless he gets curious.
