Thread: Head Swapping?

  1. #1

    Question Head Swapping?

I was wondering if the Tech type razors heads are swappable?

For instance: Tech, Tuckaway, New, Old Type?, etc

My situation is i have a straight bar tech ball-end and want to try an open comb but at the same time want some handle versatility.

    ...

If so i can see a B/S/T coming WTB: Anyone have a silver fat handle open comb tech they want to sell...? Or if if any of the others are compatible

I have a silver ball end handle from a tech with a open comb NEW head on it. Perfect fit.

I know Halloween is coming up soon. BUt it is a tad bit early for this extreme...

I understand that they are; however, I would be concerned with thread depth. With the old handles having a tendency to crack, a head with a longer post might induce cracking on a handle designed for a smaller post. On the other hand, they may be standardized that that has never been an issue.

I have seen a lot of these franken-razors. I am pretty sure it is all standardized. Also between Gillettes and Merkurs.

    That wouldn't be a problem.
The part that cracks is the barrel, the part that the head screws into is a solid plug that is pressed into the barrel. The threaded hole go all the way through so there is no problem with it bottoming out.
Every 3 piece razor that I've ever seen have #10-32 threads even the Merkurs which being German one would expect to be metric.
You will occasionally come across a cap stud which will be slightly over sized (maybe from the plating?) and it won't want to screw into a different handle.

ARGH!!! Sacrilege! The Stahly head belongs on nothing but its natural body. The Live Blade is too unique and enjoyable to degrade in that manner. Next to the Gillette Tech and the variations of the Super Speed the Stahly had the next best run. I miss mine now.

The Stahly is pretty much unusable at 160 grams with most of the weight in the base.
But the head is extremely well made but very mild, put it on a Tech handle with a Feather and you get a fine shaving razor.

This is all good to hear.

Can someone make a list of razors they KNOW would all be compatible in this way?

Put that same Feather in the Stahly and crank it up and gently let it do its job. The Stahly basically works on the same principle as a slant. A slant slices because of the angle as opposed to chopping straight through. The Stahly Live Blad does the same thing by vibrating its blades back and forth at 3000 vibrations per minute. This creates a slicing edge that only requires the least amount of pressure, or weight, at the head. If used correctly the Stahly is a very fine razor.

It would not have been in constant production from the mid-forties through the early sixties without having proven something. Over that stretch it gave Gillette it's biggest challenge.
