What does In Bloom mean - re: Shaving Brush

Bloom: The process of spreading of the bristles after initial use. Once used, the initially tightly bound hair will fluff and cause the brush to appear larger.

No real worry. Some guys, including myself, squeeze the bristles back into their original cone shape after the brush is dry. I just think the bloom is a messy look, not for me. Just MHO.

Some brushes are actually packed so that the bristles are somewhat compressed. When taken out of the box the bristles spread so that the brush appears to "bloom" like a flower does.

How much bloom is good

Bloom does not have a measure of merit, i.e. good or bad. All brushes bloom to one extent or another. Even the stiffest of boar hair brushes bloom a bit. So, do not worry and by all means do not bother to add fertilizer to ensure lovely blossoms!:001_rolle
