  1. Thumbs up Speick - a superlative classic.

Speick - a sharp, spicy classic from Mr. Walter Rau.

A no nonsense classic from Germany. Spicy, clean fresh and efficacious... hard to ask for more....

Speick after shave splash is one of those consistently stellar products whose popularity seems to come and go in waves. While its popularity seems to fluctuate - one thing's consistent, Speick's stellar quality and no nonsense performance.

Speick gets its name from the company's use of the genuine Speick herb used in every product they create. Speick is the common name for Valeriana Celtica, a very interesting, protected plant grown in the Austrian Alps. The oil from this plant has a medicinal effect of healing ones skin, soothing irritation and best of all - boasts a very unique, complex and interestingly spicy fragrance.

The scent of this oil and by default Speick's aftershave are quite hard to describe (it would be like trying to explain lavender or lime, it's quite tricky) however my best effort would be to categorize it as a lovely mix of bergamot, pine, jasmine, cedar and neroli.... a really zesty neroli that is. A better description would trudging though the Swiss Alps on the first day of spring. Very German, very masculine, very good.

So it smells good, it's healing - yadda yadda, you want to know why its different from other superlative aftershave splashes? Ok, i'll bite. All products are only as good as the quality and sum of their ingredients. Speick cuts no corners. Pure fermented alcohol kills all the nasties on your skin, provides a refreshing jolt and fights razor burn, Speick plant extract soothes and calms your skin, witch hazel tones and soothes your freshly shaven face, menthol and camphor give you a nice cooling zap, alum tightens your pores, tones your face and stops nicks/cuts from bleeding and lastly a few nourishing oils/properties are added to replenish any lost moisture. Other than the aforementioned, there are merely a few all natural scents added to both soothe your skin and provide a wonderfully complex scent - and there you have it.... all natural goodness with no unnecessary chemicals or fillers. Very impressive.

Say you like the scent of Speick... you're in luck, they've got matching scented deodorant (which is lovely), shampoo, body soap, shaving cream, shaving sticks, aftershave balm, moisture cream, body cream, cologne - the list goes on of Speickalicious, reasonably priced products. Unfortunately though, you're not going to find this lovely scent in other products. The wonderful Speick plant is highly protected, and the only company with a license to harvest (in a very controlled manner) and use it, is Speick. The owner of Speick personally persuaded local farmers in Nockberge, well above tree line, to grow this plant in their gardens over 25 years ago and purchases the plants from these farmers directly. Since 1936, the plant has been heavily regulated - and will only grow in the harsh local climate, so it's basically impossible to come by, unless you've got some superlative farmer swooning skills. Luckily, for wetshavers, this makes at least one choice easy for us. If you want to experience the rare Valeriana Celtica - get yourself some Speick!

    Thumbs up

    Joel,

Thanks for the great information but where do we get this stuff from? Is it available in the USA at known places? I'm gonna do a search right now but I figured sometimes there are products available in strange places that even the internet hasn't crawled...thanks man.

For my students, you ask and say you want to know the truth, listen carefully and you will be enlightened immediately. How is it possible that you can get your chakra's opened in one day, you can send the wandering souls away? How is it possible you can look at the flower and the flower can grow? How is it possible you can think of someone and they get better? Who does this? God, and God is truth, so you see, we have truth already. -MD

I believe I read in other posts that Charles at QED carries it, although he doesn't list it on his site.

I got mine from Beauty Habit with their (now expired) coupon:

    http://www.beautyhabit.com/speick_mens.html

Smallflower looks to be a tad higher that Beauty Habits, but they carry more of the line. (both carry all the men's products)

Trafalgar Shop has the following site for Speick products: http://speick.com

A few other places carry it as well - Google is your friend.

The Speick company web site is here: http://www.speickwerk.de

I will say that Beauty Habit will throw a sample of speick(soap) in orders if you ask. I honestly find the scent very so-so. Its nice but nothing to right home about. If you want the Speick experience....get a bar of soap and the shave cream and you will get a feel for it. The soap lasts forever! Great price as well!

who I am kidding. I just put in an order with beautyhabit.com promo code for the Speik Aftershave Balm, Shave stick, bar soap, and the package that includes a tube of cream, the aftershave splash and a brush. Saved $9.54.

I really enjoyed the Speick shaving cream; wonderful scent, lather, etc. On the basis of these reviews, I'm very tempted to try the stick and splash.

Thanks Joel ... I realized that, and the article indicated there were differences but that in some ways it was "preferred". Just throwing out a reference since some enterprising person might want to get some and see what they could do.
