    Default Merkur #11C and 25C

    Folks,

This weekend I'm taking advantage of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts sale tax holiday. I’m planning on purchasing two Merkur safety razors. The "out the door" prices are as follows:

    Model# 11C at $32

    Model# 25C at $28

I'm just starting out with wet shaving and I would like to have some open comb razors in my collection.

Any constructive comments on the razors and their price would be appreciated.

I've not tried either of those, but if you want an open comb try an old Gillette NEW. My current favorite razor. You should be able to find these locally (antique stores and flea markets, if you have those up there), for < $5.

I've just started using the 11c and it appears to need a slightly different angle of attack to get the best out of it, but I'm very happy with it and I might prefer it to the HD. Haven't tried the 25c and I know handle-choice is very personal-check out the thread comparing the 37c and 39c slants. Some issues there with the newer one for some people

Leavitt & Peirce, a Tobacconist located in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. They sell cigars, pipes, shaving products etc. Sorry no website.

I know the owner and he is giving me a little break on the price for the razors.

I've tried antique stores and flea markets around the local area and I can't find any shaving items.

    But I'll keep at it.

    Thanks

I've been shaving with an 11C for six months now and I love it.

I've also got a Merkur 38C (and had a 15C briefly) and although there is some difference between the open comb and the safety bar, I'd say the biggest difference is the length and weight.

YMMV, but I think the HD versions (the 11C and the 12C) of the Merkur razors are better choices. I personally prefer the grip on the HDs.

I would go with the 11C.

    Oh, right! The prices!

I did a Google search and found the 11C on Amazon for $29.95

...but with $7 shipping! I'd say you've got a good deal there.

I am using the 25C for some time now and I love it for its very forgiving nature. Like to try every brand of blades I can find and they all go first in the 25C. US prices are better than what we pay in Europe for these items.

Hunter, looks like I'm going to pull the trigger and get them both this Saturday.

    Thanks

I picked up the 25C from a fellow B&Ber recently. A very mild shave - also good for when you have a few days stubble. It feels really pleasurable drawing it over your skin; that probably sounds a bit weird, but it does.

Kudos on finding such a great deal, and at least I can say that I know one of them is a great razor
