    Default What a difference a blade makes...

    ...and, likewise, time to get used to it.

    Started DE-ing last week with a 7 O'clock. Good results from the off. Then, thought I should change around just to see what happened. Went for a Wilkinson Sword in my Parker 91R.

    Ouch.

    Lots of scraping. Lots of burn. Lots of going over areas far too often to get a result.

    Stuck with it though, and Wilkinsoned again this morning. In just one day there was a perceptible improvement.

    Never knew that;

    1. A blade made that much difference and;

    2. It takes time to get used to a new brand of blade.

    It's a learning experience, this DE shaving, innit?

    Yeah, the blade makes a big difference. What really kills me is the varying degrees of success one blade can have on mulitple users. What works for you might be awful for me. So far the Red Personnas are the best I've used. I get three very good shaves out of one blade. Derby, Merkur, Crystals and the like give me one good or average shave and then they're done. Yet thousands of guys swear by Derby and Crystals. Very weird.

    That rug really tied the room together.

    i dare say the "what a difference a ________ makes" could, in my experiece, be applied to each component of the shave (prep, wash, soap/cream, razor, blade, a/s, a/s/b, et al)...

    after all, it's the myriad of this equation that keeps us all here. if the perfect shave for everyone was as simple as a-b-c, we'd all be bored to tears and have nothing to go on about!

    I'm one of those guys Eagle referenced. In fact, with some blades I've tried, the second and third shave are smoother than the first, which allows me to get a better shave because I'm not being overly cautious about nicking myself. Happy experimenting!

    I tried a Derby for the first time this morning, in a Milord, the biggest loss of blood I have had in a long time ... and the biggest since starting DE

    I couldnt complete the shave and had to leave stubble on my neck.

    Was using Red Personna in a Aristocrat which seemed to be quite smooth but still new and finding my favourite.
