Been thinking of sawing the bars off my HD to make it like a mini-str8. Does everyone think this is a good or a bad idea? Has it been done before by anyone who lived to tell B&B the results?

Come back when they have taken the stitches out of your face!! Seriously though I wouldn't try this, and I shave with a straight, but if your a brave man by all means go for it.
I sedederserve to lose some man points

...I'm thinking this is not such a good idea, brave man or not.
Worst idea ever. Please don't do it, we want you to enjoy your shave.

I wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't try it. That being said, by all means, you should. I'm curious to see what would happen, just not curious enough endanger my life and by beautiful face.
Paging ER doctors. Paging ER doctors.
Just don't do it, man. Even the thought of doing that sends shivers up and down the spine.

OH MY! Thats going to leave a mark!![]()
some recommend this guy a good plastic surgeon,
A man who has died with no regret is a man who is either a fool or a psychopath,
There are things you can not apologize for, the ability to carry the consequences for your actions is the mark of a true man,

Mate, I'm no expert but I can't help thinking that you'll slice your face off. There's a school of thought that says 'it's better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven't'. I think this is clearly an exception to that rule.
It'd probably be better just to pick up a cheap straight on the B/S/T Forum instead.
Just my tuppence worth.

"Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space."
Personally, I don't necessarily think you'll cut your face off (I've shaved with a Fromm hair shaper, after all) and even the old Rolls razors have similar blade exposure. Still, it's your choice. The part that bothers me is that the HD would be irreparably harmed, and if you did not like the results there is no real way of going back.
There are better alternatives to using an exposed blade (straights, for instance) than destroying a perfectly good HD.
Of course, if you are simply the experimenting type and have lots of money and HD's laying around, be my guest. I would just caution you to be very careful, and remind you you will have to stretch your skin manually like those of us who use straights do. The safety bar on the HD (as well as those "strips" on cartridge razors) typically does this *for* you at the moment. Removing it will require you to perform that task, or have your skin bunch up in front of the blade and be sliced through just like the whiskers...

Eh, bad idea.

I say go for it.![]()

If you want an open blade, I recommend that you use a straight.

A year or so ago, I bought one of those "grab-bags" of razors from Ebay; you've seen them . . . "17 vintage razors for one bid". Well, as I could see from the picture, there were a couple that were something I wanted, so I put in the minimum bid and got the lot.
When I received the box of old razors, besides the ones I really wanted and quite a few others that weren't bad, there were two that really had me scratching my head . . . one was a "New Gillette" and one was a "Tech"; the "New" had the combs ground off and the "Tech" had the safety bars ground off. Both of them also had .060" or so ground off of each side of the cap.
These razors were essentially just holders for a blade that, apparently, someone had used like a "tee" handled straight razor.
Keep in mind, the corners of a DE blade are pretty square. They are expected to be protected by the guards on the razor. Also, the analogy someone made to the Rolls Razor isn't quite acurate either. The Rolls does have a safety bar of sorts.
Obviously, Steve, someone has had this idea and done this before. I assume he lived through the first shave, since he went on to modify a second razor but whether he went on to really use these monstrosities in everyday shaving, I can't say.
Personally, although I enjoy trying out different types of razors, when I saw these two I had absolutely no inclination to try one out . . . didn't look like fun to me!
Regards,
Tom
