    Only seems like yesterday:

USAF Security Police (Law Enforcement Specialist)

Lackland AFB in Texas for training

Cannon AFB in New Mexico, (near the Texas panhandle) for 1st assignment from 1972 to 1974

RAF Greenham Common in England from 1974 to 1976

E-4 which at that time we were called "Buck Sgt".

And yes, a shellback. I would ask who has their ____ wings, but it would probably be inappropriate.

Telecommunications Specialist. They changed the RM rating in '95 as the world of communications changed. We still kept the sparks, but the new guys weren't copying code any more.

Since 2003 the rating is gone, and absorbed by two new ones, Information System Technician (IT) and Operations Systems Specialist (OS). ...And they lost the sparks.

Line officer, LCDR, U.S. Navy, then following ordination, transferred to Chaplain Corps, from which I ultimately retired. These days the Navy graces me with a check every month, and has taken care of my medical care since retirement.

Some service highlights include Dominican Republic 1965, Vietnam river patrol 1969-70, Bronze Star, with combat V, Purple Heart, Cross of Gallantry Republic of Vietnam.

My ambition: I didn't want to be the bravest guy in the Navy; I wanted to be the oldest. Still working on it.

I missed this thread cause I really try to stay out of the Barber Shop. I did a search for veteran to look for the badge discussion, and this thread popped up. Good to see the vets here.

    Service in the U.S. Army 1966 - 1969
    Republic of Viet Nam 1967 - 1968

    Airborne
    Long Range Patrol
    F Co 51st Inf

    Positions on a Lerp team:

    Point Man
    Pace Man
    RTO (radio)
    Team Leader
    Machine Gunner

At one mission or another, I got to play each one of them until a concussion spoiled all the fun.

    Awards? A few...
    Lessons? Many...
    Attitude? Oh yeah!
