Gentleman's Essentials - New Speakeasy Project

Like traditional wetshaving many of the classic manly arts are now a relic of the past, in this, the newest of the Speakeasy projects, we will be assembling a list of tutorials for gentlemen to get back to the basics and improve their quality of life.

We are seeking those who can complete tutorials for the following subjects:

• Bowtie Tying - Mottern Man
• Gentlemen's etiquette when escorting a lady - Mottern Man
• How to select wine with a meal
• Varying ways to fold a pocket square
• Ironing
• Beard/Moustache Trimming
• Managing/care of fingernails, cuticles and toenails
• Wardrobe building and clothing maintainance - Mottern Man
• What to look for in dress clothing and how to attain a proper fit
• How to pack clothing and other essentials for travel
• Wine Tasting and Proper Storage
• How to pack a pipe
• How to cut a cigar - Thirdeye (Ray)
• B&B Recipe Book
• Recipes for Sauces
• How to safely handle and maintain a firearm
• Basic Bartending Guide
• Table Manners - burningdarkness

That's a nice site, but what we are establishing here are not outside links, but tutorials created expressly for B&B by our members. But links like that can be a good place to start and gather information.

I'm pretty sure that given a few days of forum searching we can already assemble a mighty fine B&B cookbook.

Capital idea!

I've always wondered why people struggle with tying a bow tie. It literally is the same knot that 99.9% of us use to tie our shoes every day, you just have to spend a little extra time fussing about with it. Nothing mysterious there!

I'll be glad to step up and do a little piece on cutting cigars.

It is not always ladies first when you are using etiquette. I will list just those that are not.
1. a push door. you go through first and hold it for her
2. an escalator. going up you let her go first. going down you go first to stop her is she falls.
3. getting in a cab, you go first so you have to slide across the dirty seat.

those are just a few I follow.

I've been smoking a pipe for about a year now, I;m just getting the hang of this.

Yea me too! I dumped the cig's and have a nice collection of pipes and some cans of some rare..tobac! My fave is a churchwarden with a little cherry aromatic tobac while sitting in the hot tub with a cocktail after a shave!!
Had to get the shave in there!

Speaking of cocktails that is another gentleman's essentials that has been forgotten....do you know how many bartenders don't know how to make a Manhatten or an Old Fashioned!!
