Default Van Der Haven Glycerin Soap Feedback Needed

Just received three Col Conk glycerin soaps (almond, bayrum, and amber) but haven't used them yet. I've used only VDH glycerin soap for many months and really like it. Like the smell but don't know what to compare it to..closest I've come is bayrum. It makes a great lather, and allows a good shave. There are only two kinds, I believe...the deep orange for sensitive skin and the cream colored for heavy beards. I'd like feedback on how many others here on B&B use VDH and their rating on lather, quality of shave, length a puck lasts, what smell of soap compares to, and how VDH compares to other soaps, like Col Conks glycerin soap. Thanks for feedback offered.

Look at the review here for most of the info you need:

I use this soap one or two days a week at least. I like it a lot.

VDH makes another shave soap called 'Select', it is white in color and barely has any scent. I use all three and they are all very good performers. All have mild scents. I like VDH a lot and could use it exclusivly, but I like trying new stuff all the time for some reason.

People here say that Col. Conk soap is made by VDH and is the same except for the scents put in the Col. Conk soaps.

Here is a nice post about all three VDH soaps

I am a really big fan of the orange glycerin puck. This product will be in my shave den until they quit making it. I find the lather to be among the slickest of the soaps/creams I have tried. I have yet to have a bad shave with VDH glycerin. Typically, I melt this soap into an old deodorant stick to make a shave stick, which makes the experience all the better.

For me, this is best bang for the buck shaving soap out there. Sure I burn through the pucks in a short period of time, but they cost less than $1.50 are available at every drug store in town. This is one of the products that I would pay more for. I personally think this VDH glycerin shaves better than Conk at half the price minus shipping.

I also wanted to add: the scent is okay ... not off-putting to my nose. I don't use this soap because is smells awesome, but because it is a performer.

Of course it's dark, it's a suicide note.

You are a genius. Now I have a use for my sticks after I kill off the deodorant!

I agree, the scent of VDH soaps is very hard to place. Per VDH, the scent of all three soaps is the same: a knock-off of Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beane. It doesn't smell that much like the cologne much because the scent is so very light.

When the soap cools completely after melting it into the deodorant stick it next to impossible to twist up, because it "clings" to the walls of the stick.

Honeybee Sue gave me this trick to solve the problem:
Place the shave stick in the freezer for 15 minutes, remove the shave stick and with the deodorant cap on run the shave stick under hot water for a minute or two (soaking it in a sink full of hot water work too). The soap should now twist up without problem.

... sorry to hijack the thread ... back to the regularly scheduled program ...

I've read alot of positive comments about the VDH soaps, but I have tried the glycerin, deluxe, and select versions and did not really enjoy any of them. I remember thinking at the time that my razor would skip during the shave. I purchased them at a Wal Mart Super Center and will have to try at least one of them again soon. If the soap works for you, it is certainly a good value for the price.

I might have to try some of that... I love the scent of my VDH Deluxe, light as it may be.

I actually like my $1.50 puck of VDH Deluxe more than my $10 tube of Proraso.

I have used it to experiment with making my own scents.

If it goes wrong, hey, you have some nice-smelling hand soap. Cheap way to get the hang of using EO's.
