Question I know someone who wants a brush with stiff hairs. Is there one like this?

What brush could be recommended for someone who wants "stiffer hairs"

    Any ideas?

    Proraso/Omega boar brush - $12
    Rooney Small Finest - $200

    Stiffest brushes I know.

    Regards.

If you are in the US, I guess something like a Van der Hagen or a BurmaShave shaving brush is very stiff. In the UK you can get a brush from a shop called Wilkinsons for about 39p which is really stiff.

+1 on the Proraso/Omega boar brush

    Nothing comes even remotely close.

The Omega/Proraso boar brush is pretty stiff, but if you're looking for badger hair, a Rooney 1/1 or 3/1 in Super both have a lot of backbone.

Agreed, the boar hair or synthetic brushes are stiffer. I have the Rooney 3/1 and it's fairly stiff although not as stiff as the boar/synth. Badger hair is softer to the touch and provides a bit of luxury, but fine shaves can be had with the other as well.

I would call the Rooney Supers 'great backbone', but I would not call them stiff. The Omega/Proraso or the Rooney Finests are downright stiff IMO. Regards.

That's a good way to put it. After thinking about it I really didn't like the term 'stiff' with regards to the Rooney. It holds up sturdy during lathering and doesn't splay all over the face. But the bristles themselves are nice and soft. If your friend wants a truly stiff bristle then boar or synthetic are the way to go.

The boar brushes will become softer with time and usage.

Being stiff and being prickly are two different things.

I've got four Omega boar brushes in various sizes and none of them are prickly; since they are properly stacked the hairs all have their natural tips, so there is no reason why they would be.

+1 (for the Omega/Proraso, definitely not prickly).

This Plisson with "Black" Badger is quite stiff and a very classy looking brush.

The Body Shop's synthetic brush definitely had stiff bristles (but soft tips).
