Default Is My New 39c Slant Defective ?

Just received 39c slant on a barberpole. Notice small amount jagged metal between ridges on bottom part of razor head left from molding. Is this normal?. I've noticed same on pics of slants posted on B&B. Will it affect shaving ? Also noticed on pic of gold slant posted on B&B that razor blade is more exposed on right than left. Exposure on 39c is same all the way across. Need feedback please before I use. Should I keep or send back to Lee's razors? Thanks.

I don't know i the "jagged edges" would inhibit shaving - a pic would help greatly.

Regarding the blade edge, yes, it is normal for this slant to have more of the blade exposed from left to right. Looks odd but shaves great!

Sorry Joel that you were upset thread got posted twice. My computer is as ancient as me and was acting all funky for an hour. Didn't think thread went through as first thread just sat there and spun. Also that ole short term memory loss setting in....AAAgh to be young again. Does B&B have a Senile Section???

I don't think there is any real flaw to worry about, at least in performance. You're talking about casting flash between the teeth on the battom of the razor head, right? My slant has it, too, but it never has affected the shaves I'm getting from my slant, which are excellent. If the slot located there isn't blocked completely, water will pass through just fine for rinsing.

We've had a post about this before. It bothers some guys, but others, like me, realize it's no big deal. I'd live with it, if I were you.

Mine looks like the first pic. Had first shave with it and everything went fine. Thanks for the pics.

A lot of times, the Merkur razors have left over burrs that are supposed to be buffed off after the part is casted and before plating. Problem areas are the head assembly, both top and bottom razor head assemblies. Also underneath the blade guard where those two casting circle edges are, sometimes there are burrs or flakes of metal still attached that should have been polished off before plating. If you don't mind losing a bit of plating, you can just remove them with your fingernail or a toothpick. After, you can smooth it over with some very fine grit sandpaper, like a 1500 grade or nail file with a fine grit. Also to the top head assembly where the threaded post attaches to the head of the razor, sometimes there are flakes of loss metal around the post where it's soldered together. If you want to return it fine, but if you want to shave with it and fix the problem yourself, there will be slight visible signs of plating loss where the burrs were. Ideally, all burrs should be taken of a polished smooth before the razor parts are plated.

My slant has the burrs you describe. They do not affect performance, though they do cause me to question Merkur's commitment to quality control. I'm sure Lee would take care of you if you wanted, but IMHO it's an issue of aesthetics, not performance. Either way, you've got a great shaver!

My slant had some of the problems described above and also one of the corners of the top piece was slightly bent and not allowing to close down precisly. I returned it and got a new one. One of my best razors.
