    Default Montreal Meeting V 2.0

    Hello again to all,
I'm pleased to announce there will be another meeting/seminar in the Montreal area coming up. It will be open to all members here and will be a great chance to meet fellow straight shavers and share your experiences face to face. There will also be a honing demonstration (by request) and an oportunity to try out some hones and stuff I'll be bringing. I also encourage all those attending to bring any equipment they feel is unique and worth sharing. All questions and requests are welcome.

This time, I also suggest we all bring our soaps, creams, brushes etc. if anyone wants to trade.

There will, once again, be a door prize supplied by me. Last time, other people offered up prizes, and I thought that was awsome. There is, however, no obligation to do so.

    Date & Time:
Saturday, august 23rd, 10 am to 1 pm

    Duration:
    3 hours

    Charge:
    $10 (to cover space rental)

    Location:
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (fellowship hall)
    1389 Victoria Avenue
    Saint Lambert, J4R 1R4
    ( 45°29'25.84"N , 73°29'40.59"W for those with google earth)

Please PM me to RSVP or if you have any questions/requests.
Special thanks (once again) to Richard for helping to organize this.

Great initiative, Dan and Richard. I've noticed quite a few Montrealers on here and it occured to me it'd be interesting to meet up. I look forward to the honing demo since I'm getting into that a bit.

(I want to bring my Henckels 3k/8k hone and let others try it. I can't find any info about it here or SRP, so I'm curious how it rates/cuts compares to the Norton.)

I'd like to attend however, not sure if I can organize any transport for that day.
I live on Av Papineau very close to the Metropolitan if anyone's going that passes this area I'd really appreciate a lift? Thanks.

    Kenny.

Wow I wonder if something like that happens in the Toronto or Brampton area. I used to live in St. Lambert and now I'm wondering if Miss Chinatown is still next door to that church.

That's pretty cool! Has this been a regular thing, or will be a regular thing? If all goes well, I'll be living in Montreal in a year to transfer into McGill and this sounds pretty interesting!

This is the second such meeting.
There was a bit of a buzz about making it a regular thing, but there are some logistics issues.

This time and the last, I got the idea to throw an event like this because I had several people asking me to show them how to hone. I figure why not kill multiple birds with one hone (chuckle) and promote a local community attitude at the same time. Maybe one day we could all march into Vasco and demand a special 25% B&B discount.

No joke. I was thinking along those lines too. What we should do is ask some place like Maison de Razoir (or whatever it's called) to offer up some gifts in exchange for a little PR. It's win-win.

Centre Du Rasoir carries only J.A. Henkels stuff unfortunately. As Obscenely priced as they are, Vasco has Dovo, Edwin Jager, Mhueler Pinsel (SP?), Omega, GFT, Taylors, Trufitt & Hill, D R Harris, the list goes on... I think they are approximately 25% more expensive than online retailers (on average) so 25% would be the smallest discount they could offer to make them a viable choice for us.

Oddly enough this is also true of their tobacco.

    Bump for shameless promotion.

There are several confirmed door prizes including a razor, balsa pasted strops, aftershave and a poster sized print of Joel's naked PETA ad.

I'm going to be away that weekend but would definitely be interested in 3.0 if it happens.
DE user currently, but interested in straights, I know my dad would probably be interested as well.
Next step is to convince the girlfriend that getting a straight doesn't mean that I'm going to accidentally decapitate myself or turn into a psycho killer overnight...

I'm really sorry I missed most of the fun, but it was a pleasure to meet you all. And yes, Jacques, thanks for the strops. That was very generous of you. I was trying out the hanging strop a little and it's quite nifty. Hope to see you all again in the not too distant future.

    Tom

PS Jacques, if you read this, what was the address of the store on Laurier (I think it was) where they have the neatsfoot (sp?) oil?
