Help me decide

a close friend of mine has offered to give me one of his DE Razors
I can only get one he says...

I can't decide who to take to the prom, any suggestions?

Merkur HD Classic "Barber Pole" Long Safety Razor -#38C
Merkur Progress Adjustable Double Edge Safety Razor -#570

Personally, I'd go with the HD for a non-adjustable and the Progress if adjustable is your heart's desire. But that's just me.

If someone made that offer to me, I'd take the 38C.

Is that the one they call the HD Classic?

I'd take the progress. Hands down.

To me the Progress looks a little cheap with its plastic knob, plus I read complaints from people about having to twist the head of the razor to change blades.

The 38C is a thing of beauty...

I think as the first responce said, it's going to boil down to these two razors and whether you want an adjustable or not.

No question in my mind: Progress and get a stainless steel knob from Mer if you don't like the plastic.

I think I'd go with the Progress as well.

One more point: I am certain that you will be able to trade the Progress for an HD or for that matter, likely any of the other razors. I don't think may Progress owners will trade their Progress for much else in the Merkur line unless it's to get rid of a duplicate.

Take the HD to the dance. That's like taking your shaving sweetheart. Why bother with the backup "dates?"
