Four Roses is still pretty limited in their distribution, huh? I have a bottle of the Small Batch that mom brought me back from the distillery, but I'm still trying to acquire the taste of hard liquors. Might have to join in on the club every few months.

I just bought a bottle of Appleton Estate Rum. Nice stuff mixed with a cold ginger beer.

I like the idea of gin. It makes for some fine sipping in the hot weather.

Another vote for Appleton Estate Rum, but go with the good stuff, the 12 year. I think they call it "Extra." Rum is a good summer drink, in my opinion.

I'd like to throw a vote towards Germain-Robin Alambic Brandy. I picked up a bottle recently based on the recommendations in another thread and found it amazing. For $35 to $40 a bottle I think everyone should try it.

I agree that gin would be perfect for this time of year. I have never tried Hendrick's, so that would be a good one for me, too.

My second choice for this time of year would be rum. My preference is for medium-colored rums from the southern Carribbean, such as Mount Gay from Barbados.

I'd move away from the Ephemera in favor of choosing a respectable middle-to-top-shelf label that's representative of its type. Most definitely things that won't break the bank, at least to get started. Preferably, something that somebody can go into any well stocked liquor store and buy without having to hunt it up.

Like a good, but not great, Reposado to show Two Fingers drinkers what good tequila is. In fact, the difference between OK tequila and rotgut tequila is SOOOO striking, that maybe tequila would be a fine place to start. If you start right away with the great, those who have never even appreciated the good would not understand what they're paying for.

I prefer scotch and bourbon to tequila, but you've really got a great point there. A decent Reposado made my friends admit that they've never wanted to sip a tequila before -- until they'd had my good one!

My favorite tequila is Corzo, Espolon is my next favorite. Not exactly cheap, but they sure are good, and should be easy to find without visiting Mexico.

Very true. If it doesn't happen this month I definitely see picking one in the future.

Heh, I was just considering bumping this yesterday. I'm thinking perhaps a Rye? Manhattans are a good early Fall drink. Maybe a distinctive potato or rye vodka?

A nice Calvados might be an enjoyable beverage for fall, as well, though I don't have a particular brand in mind (my own supply was brought back from a trip to France -- I've never seen it in the States).

No, I think for the SOTM we're gonna stick with real spirits.

You can throw in anything at any time, that's the whole point of this thread.

Since it'll be Autum, I'm fond of the WT Rare Breed.
