Default Gillette Super Speed differences in years/colors?

What are the differences in the years of the SS, and which one is generally considered to be the best? I have heard good things about the 1948-50 models, but I'm not sure. Thanks!

This info from the wiki is great at the first part of your q:

I have tried most of the SS's and have an opinion, though my opinion and yours could vary 180 degrees.

Well then, rather than talking about ALL SS's, what about just the 40's models? Is there a difference between the no-date-code ones and the ones which ARE dated? It's ok, I do value your personal opinions, and am interested in what you guys think personally about the differences. Unless it's generally regarded that they're the same, and that's ok too.

I've never noticed any differences in the non date (47-50) and the dated 40's style Super Speeds (50-54), aside from the dates of course. I just shaved the back of my neck with a 1951 and it was so smooth I didn't think it had a blade in at first and had to double check. There were some very early '47's that used Ranger Tech parts and these do shave me a bit more aggressively, but these are rare and the chances of finding one slim.

    Good luck with you quest!

I agree with Chris. There are some guys that maintain the '47 pre-notch is 'better' somehow, but I can't tell any difference either by examination or by shaving with it.

I consider all the old-style SS's, '47-'54 to be equivalent, differing only in cosmetic and/or mechanical condition.

They are a fine razor and do a journeyman job.
