Default Impressions of my new 39C Barber Pole Slant

I traded one of my Fatboys for a like new 39C Barber Pole Slant. Upon pulling it out of the box I was taken aback by just how mean this thing looks. I loaded up a new Feather blade (gulp) and after some hot towel prep and a thick layer of Mama Bears lather I took my first stroke. To my amazement this thing glided over my face as if on a cushion of air. First pass and no blood, hurray! Second pass and still no blood. Three passes without even a nick and surely one of the most comfortable shaves I ever experienced. Now I'm not saying that this razor is the most forgiving, I'm just saying that if given the proper respect along with proper prep, it can produce amazing shaves.

I just received my second one from Lee after having to exchange the first one because of a little manufacturing problem. I too was impressed how mean this thing looks. I just wish that Merkur would put there razors in a nicer case. The case that came with my $20 Wieshi is nicer. Anyway I havent shaved with it yet but I cant wait. Now which blade do I choose?

    Default A great razor

    Hi Gents,

I have had mine a couple of weeks and it is a spectacular shave. I have been wet shaving for the last 12 months and have a few razors : SS,38c,Dovo Shavette and now a Wapi and a Double Arrow. The 39c gives me as close a shave as my straights, with virtually no irritation whatsoever. I use a TESCO blade that I absolutely love, apparently they are actually Israeli blades!

You have to be careful, but not that careful,I even pushed a little hard and still didnt have any problems. If you go WTG,XTG and then ATG you will get an immensly close shave.

I love straight shaving and the art of making a blade shave ready, but have no intention of ditching the 39c, its on the shelf and will be used at least three times a week.It looks great, feels great and does the business - what else can you ask for.

If you havnt got one then pop out and buy one,you will not be wasting your money, trust me!

I've got a 'standard' Slant. How does this one compare?

Same head but the extra length and weight of the handle makes a lot of difference. You can truly let the weight of the razor do the work.
