  1. Default What are the best aftershaves for a young guy?

    Hey,

I'm a 17 year old newly inducted wetshaver. I grabbed some AV musk, and i'm digging it. Someone on another thread called it an old man smell, so i was wondering what would be considered a young mans smell?

I hear witch hazel thrown about, but is that aftershave? I looked at it and it seems more like some sort of skin conditioner. Or something.

Anything would be great, i'd love to hear some (cheap) suggestions

Try the Aqua Velva Ice Sport. It smells like Coolwater and it has vitamins for the skin. It costs about $2.98 and It's the one in the plastic bottle.

Old Spice is pretty good. In fact it is REALLY good :-)

Find something you like, don't worry what anyone else thinks, unless she is your wife. Or you get Hai Karate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hai_Karate - Hai Karate was a budget aftershave on sale in the United States and the United Kingdom during the 1960s through the 1980s, and derives its notability from its position as an icon of nostalgia. It was famously used by teenagers as their first scent, competing with other market leaders Brut, British Sterling, English Leather and Old Spice as well as the "King" of the "Asian fragrances", JADE EAST. As a unique marketing ploy, in the early days each bottle of Hai Karate came with a small self-defense instruction booklet, to help wearers defend themselves against women.

Most aftershaves except for a few have very little staying power and dissipate rather quickly.

I think Old Spice has introduced a couple new aftershaves that have "younger" type scents, those might be worth looking in to.

The smell is secondary. It is important to find something that soothes the skin first and foremost. As far as Witch Hazel, Thayers makes a Witch Hazel Aftershave that works pretty well. Though I'd be remiss if I didn't still recommend Aqua Velva. It's not old, it's timeless.

If the scent has too much staying power, it could possibly interfere with your cologne (if you choose to use)

Shane, that is very true. AV is probably my go to aftershave after a not so great shave.

it's a clasic "barbershop" scent. it rocks and it's cheap.

it's pinaud clubman...and you can probably find it at walgreens. don't let the price fool you. it's great stuff with a nice spicy, talcum powdery scent.

I like the Nancy Boy after shaves. Original & replenishing. Moisturizing, the scent is pleasant and you can't even smell it after about 20 minutes.

My wife who likes to me wear Drakkar and other more modern scents likes the Axe pulse a/s I bought a while back. Not as old guyish as some of the stuff mentioned, feels good too.

Ya know... when I was that age, I still liked Clubman. I used to love coming fresh from the barber smelling like that. I think I wore Brut back then though... a guy I knew that I respected and admired wore Brut.

When I got into my twenties I started wearing the expensive trendy stuff and wasting my money.

Anyhoo.... I would suggest trying to find something you like that doesn't cost a lot. You don't have to tell anyone what it is you wear, but wear something that makes you comfortable and that maybe even gives you an extra little boost of confidence. Look at the inexpensive options first though. Save your money for dates, don't waste it on name brands just for the sake of name brands.

DR Harris Arlington is a nice fresh citrus splash. Saint Charles Shave makes some nice a/s balms/gels with fresh younger scents.

Just stay away from TOBS sandalwood until you turn 50. Other than that, I think everything'll be okay for you.
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!
I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.

What you want, young man, is Pinaud Clubman! If you're feeling a little richer sometime, get some Musgo Real. These are great no matter HOW old you are. To me something either smells good or it doesn't. A "scent" (IMPORTANT--as long as it's good) doesn't make you smell older or younger IMHO. I wouldn't think any differently about a guy wearing these weather he was 17 or 70.

+1 - This is great advice. Although, if it was a tossup between AV and Pinaud Clubman I'd choose Clubman...Walgreen's has them both. Go in, after a shave, and throw some on each side of your face and buy the one you like...

(I wouldn't recommend this to an adult looking to buy lol)
