removing chromium oxide from a piece of leather

I heard a little neats foot oil (or similar product) and lots of wiping with paper towels is the way to go. BUt try without the oil first and see how much you get off.
 
You can get a lot of it off if you use some of that cleaner they use for cleaning grease and stuff off your hands like gojo or something like that. Remember that the stuff it an abrasive grit and some will embed itself into the leather. If you are planning on using the leather for plain stropping or applying something finer I wouldn't because it will always be contaminated. You could probably use it with a heavier grit though.
