No one has mentioned R.E.M. Those first albums of theirs were brilliant. Some of their later stuff was good too.

You'll have to be more specific. Are we talking classic rock, basic hard rock, metal, hair band, rockabilly, etc...
I did put down Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young earlier before remembering that Nash was British (before becoming a U.S. citizen) and Neil Young is Canadian (unless he has become a U.S. citizen as well).
