Default Travel Kit (Dobb Kit) Recommendations

I left my Dobb Kit (with a '48-'50 Super Speed, C&E travel brush and some Trumper Coral Skin food) at a hot springs back in March. Must have been the day of skiing and then the total body relaxation that allowed me to forget something so valuable as 60 year old pristine razor. Immediately called and the staff located it but alas, when I finally made it back to the spa no pack.

So...anybody have a great travel kit they want to recommend?

    Default Red Oxx rides again

This is a no brainer for me. I am a frequent traveler (30%) so check out the Red Oxx Tri Fold Shave Kit from the folks in Billings Montana. This Dopp kit rocks, with plenty of room for all shave gear and toiletries. I think this is the best most functional Dopp kit I have used. I have the grey and black model. All Red Oxx stuff is made to outlast anything you have ever used.

Awesome stuff. I see they have worked with Doug Dyment of OneBag.com in designing their carry-on bag. Onebag.com is a great travel site. Thanks for the suggestion. I like the design and it does look durable

Looks functional but ugly. If I were to buy a travel kit for my razors I'd want something vintage leather or at least an imitation of that kind of style.

Think La Dolce Vita rather than Chevy Chase.

You hit it, functional. Plenty of room for my shave gear and a lot more. I can travel for well over a month without replenishing anything. This is an extremely well made, tight, sturdy kit and depending on the type of travel you do there are places on this planet that a fancy dopp kit just will not work. I travel strictly carry on, so bulk is out, streamlined functionality is in. In fact try traveling to a third world contry with fancy luggage, and clothing and see how safe you think your belongings will be when the weekly earnings of the hotel staff are around $3. Not only are you a target for pick pockets but you my as well hand over your wallet as you get off the plane. Now I am all for the finer things in life, and there is a time and place to display your opulance, and if a designer labeled, oversized, traditional, Japanese cow skinned dopp kit is what you want then by all means rock on.

All good points but I'm in a fortunate position such that none really apply to me. In fact I'd say most of the hotel staff I'm coming in to contact with would probably be so unimpressed with the shaving kit no matter how good it looked to you or I and would consider it worthless next to a Fusion or something.

With that in mind has anyone seen a leather dopp kit (designer label and oversized aren't my top priorities) other than those that appear on eBay once in a while?

If you do a search at Amazon you will pull up several ncie options:

Today I ordered a British Military Roll-up bag from QED:

It isn't a traditional Dopp kit, but I think looks awesome

My kids got me a leather "kit bag" from Eddie Bauer and it works great.

This is really a YMMV thing.

You don't need to spend more than $15 - $20 on a decent dopp kit. I have a small nylon one for my gym bag and a leather one I picked up on sale for $10 that is great for travel.

I think the expensive ones are nice, but I just can't justify spending the cash when the one I have works just as well. Unless you abuse the heck out of your stuff, even an inexpensive dopp kit will give you years of service.

If you want a nice leather one, check for sales, as you can often find them on sale.

Also, think about how you travel - I often fly carry-on only, so I like small, soft-sided kits as they are easier to tuck into my cary on.
    Chris.
