Under the nose?

How do you get those hairs which are near the crease on the lip under the nose. Mine are pretty course there and I really struggle to get to them. Shaving down WTG it is difficult to reach them while maintaining the proper razor angle. I end up shaving XTG to get them but always end up with the side of blade up my nostril. I'm sure there is a trick to it...............

Are you using a straight razor or a DE? If you're using a straight, try the coup de maître (as described here: http://www.en.nassrasur.com/razorcentral/coup.html), it works pretty nicely for me. Be careful though, as you will be holding the razor nearly perpendicular to your upper lip. If you're using a DE I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

I am using a DE Super Speed. The bulk of the head gets in the way. And no, my honker isn't excessively large............................

I'm very coarse as well, here's what I do. If looking in the mirror I use me left hand and pull up on my right nostril and very carefully shave down with the grain, then I switch the razor to left hand and pull up on my left nostril with my right hand and shave down with the grain with my left hand. I'm not very ambidextrous but I have managed to to teach my left hand to at least shave that much

Shave sideways, from the center to the corner of the lip. Works with a straight also.

When I go sideways I always whack my nose with the extended end of the blade.

I'll try holding my nose out of the way.

Would someone who has used the moustache razor chime in please? I have a similar problem as the original post and I believe the users of the moustache razor can better guide the uninitiated

I use a straight razor. I have a moustache and to trim just under the nose and the sides of the moustache I actually use two hands. I hold one end of the blade at the scales with one hand and "push" the other end with the other against the grain. It works nicely.

I pull the tip of my nose up with my left hand and try to extend my upper lip down and sort of around and under my front teeth. I pull my nose up and to the left to shave just below that crease on the right and then pull up and to the right to shave below that crease on the left. I shave both sides with the razor in my right hand. Seems to work for me...

I was experimenting today and found something that worked - once, anyway.

I placed the blade into the crease under my nose and rested the head of the SS on my nose. I then pulled the handle up like a lever and the blade scraped away the hairs. It worked quite well - i didn't cut myself (this time) and removed to offending hairs very effectively. I'll try to repeat my success tomorrow.

I learned a technique when getting a straight shave in Sicily. As the barber prepared to shave under my nose I tightened my lip and he signaled for me to relax. I did and he lifted my nose by the tip and gently shaved straight down. It worked like a charm.

I still use this technique for my WTG pass. It seems like the lip won't be resistant enough to the blade to do any good, but give it a try. It works for me.

Eventually, I have to shave up to get BBS but this only happens after the above method has done a proper job first.

That's basically what I was trying to say, it's definitively easier to do then to explain to others

. Do you switch hands to get the other side or do you do it all right handed?

Also in regards to razors, when I was learning this area, I found my bell end Tech to be the best razor for tight quarters.

I do all my shaving with my right hand. I am so anti-ambidextrous it is scary. When I was trying to shave with a straight I never could master using my left hand and with a DE there is no need.
