I like the donuts from Donut World. Most locals like Bob's Donuts better. After years of having Dunkin Donuts in CA, they are now back. There's one in Half Moon Bay. Not among the best, and especially their plain donuts are often not really fresh. Their coffee is only mediocre.

My favorite donuts are Berliner donuts, and I can't get them here. Have to make them myself. They are not cloyingly sweet.

I think they'd get some arguments about their selection for Maine. Despite the fact that you can't throw a rock without hitting a Dunkin' Donuts in New England we actually do have some legitimately good donuts shops as well. I think the smart money may be on The Holy Donut (two shops in Portland).

Donuts are my fat boy weakness.... I've worked in Arlington for 3 weeks and I have tried at least 8 different shops. The sour cream donut is the true test!!! There's a joint at sublet and 287 that is almost perfect!!

My vote goes to Bob's in SF as well..... he doesn't use a "master mix" , he uses different high quality flours for each donut style ,you can taste the difference....

I have to agree 100% with the Louisiana choice of District Donuts and Sliders!

Any time we're in the vicinity of Magazine St, we find an excuse to end up at District!! Even my 86 year old grandmother who almost never leaves her house jumps for the opportunity to be taken for a bumpy ride down river road, up Magazine!

If you're ever in New Orleans, do yourself a favor and skip the fried seafood and get yourself some fried dough instead! You won't regret it!

(Also their baristas are well strained and pull only fantastic shots of espresso, and they serve iced coffee from a nitrogen fed kegerator a la Cuvee coffee in Austin, TX. You must get one of each!)
