... I have narrowed it down to a Swiss movement watch and would like it
to to be under $500. ...

I meant automatic movement. Where isa good place to buy an orient watch?

If you are interested in an "automatic" rather than a "Swiss" movement ("automatic" being a type of movement like quartz and manual, and "Swiss" being the location where some movements of all sorts are made) then I second the suggestion that you include Japanese automatic watches in your consideration. Orient has been suggested, and I'd add Seiko to the mix for sure.

The "Japanese Domestic Market" watches (ie made by Japanese companies for sale in Japan rather than internationally) tend to be highly thought of, and you can get them from Japanese sellers who ship internationally, like this guy http://www.seiyajapan.com/collections/seiko/products/s-sarb017

For me personally, I'd go with the Tissot Visodate (actually I did go) or the Hamilton.Check Seiko SNP005, a Jorg Gray 6500 and a Hamilton Khaki Mechanical http://jonsguide.org/best-top-watches-under-1000-reviews/ They not look like Rolex but have good quality They are classic, reliable, strong company histories, and will still be in good rotation if you choose other watches down the road. Whatever you pick, find one you love and it's far less important what we think. You are the one wearing it, and any of the above are great quality!
