Shims

I make a shim out of a used Blade. Are there other ways to make one? Is there another way to shim a razor I don't know about, or is a cut blade the one and only? Just curious if there are other methods or tricks to juice up your razors aggressiveness.

I use a Kai because it's the thickest I know of.

You can use a thin piece of plastic as well. I made a post on page two showing how to use strips of electrical tape.

I've gotten a couple of these with Old Types before. I don't know anything about them though. Not exactly pertaining to what you were asking but I thought I would share it.

In theory.............
One of the cheap stainless steel razor blade shaped "dog-tag" necklaces that the Chinese sell for about $1 each on eBay.



Measure the width carefully and file it down to fit.

Those plates are meant to be (or can be) used for shimming

Yes, those are commercial shims from back in the day when the blades went thin, so that all those Old Types out there could be compensated.

Exactly what many folks (including myself) do today with one or two cut-off thin blades.

Cool, I didnt know there were commercial shims made to compensate, looks like brass? Anyway, I shim alot of my razors, I like to make them aggressive to a point.
