I am a brand new straight razor user and got a straight razor as an impulse purchase from Ebay
I have been using a Merkur 39C Slant Safety Razor for the past couple of years and wanted a change.
I bought one that was "Shave ready" but it seemed to be doing a lot of tugging.
So I did some research to find my closest straight razor honer in the UK - and Gary's name popped up.
We took the afternoon to sharpen the razor using:
1) 3000 grit naniwa sharpening stone
2) Yellow Belgian coticule
3) And finished up on a Westholme Strop.
and WOW - what a difference - the shave was so close, smooth and comfortable.
I can fully understand why @gary haywood has the reputation he has and I will certainly be going back again!
Not only a great honer, but also a great guy!
He even PIF'd a balsa wood paddle for me to learn to do blade refreshes
