Beach Combing

I chanced upon a mostly decayed fish head. Looks like a salmon head to me, based on the shape and the teeth, but I could be wrong.

I also found a weird carapace (ca 5 inches long) of some unfortunate arthropod unknown to me. If anybody know what kind of crab-beastie this is, please fill me in.

I am familiar with horseshoe carbs, and that carapace I found looks nothing like it came from one. That is, unless CA horseshoe crabs are very pale and have a totally different shape (no two-segemented carapace) than their East Coast relatives.
