    Default Wood soap bowl.....(stupid) question

I am a new to this so please excuse my ignorance. I just bought the Taylor's of Old Bond Street Lavender soap in the wood bowl. After I load my brush and lather in another bowl.... and I'm all finished shaving.... Do I cover the soap when it is still wet? or do I leave it open to dry out?

I flip the bowl upside down for a few seconds and let the excess water drip out. Then I just put the lid on and set it on my shelf. A little bit of moisture left in the soap will help keep it hydrated and softer for the next time you use it.

    Either/or, really.
Be there or be square. Only I can do both!
I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.

The choice is yours, I just wouldn't let it sit in water.

I leave the lid off of any soap container be it wood or plastic. For hours usually. I'm not sure if it is necessary but that is what I do and it has worked well so far.

I tend to let it dry but it wouldn't matter either way.

I leave the lid off in the morning and put it back on in the evening.
Like Jimmy said, I'm not sure it needs to be done, but I just do it anyway.

I just shake out the excess water, then put on the lid.

I shake excess water off the puck wipe any water off the bottom and sides of the bowl with a towel and then stick it back on the shelf with the lid on it.

    Thumbs up

I've used the same bowl for about six or seven years now. C&E sandalwood and i've put a fresh soap in it once. I just empty out the water and put the lid straight on when done.

A little bit of the of the brown woodstain has come off, but no cracks or warping. Just normal ageing as far as i am concerned

    1: Take puck outta bowl
2: Hold puck in hand and load brush with soap
    3: Put down brush
4: with free hand, take "prelather" from puck and wipe it on your face. Puck should now be dry.
5: Place puck back in bowl
6: Build lather on face and shave man, shave !!

Default Why hasn't anyone copied the Tabac bowl yet?

All shaving soap bowls should be Tabac bowls. Period.

The Germans.... their design intelligence is legendary.

TABAC to me is the single BEST thing about traditional wet shaving in a nutshell. The scent, the lather, the performance.

As for "on topic" wooden bowl maintenance, I leave the lid off til the soap dries.

As others have said, it doesn't matter. Find the ritual that makes you happy and don't worry about it. The only time I would get a bit more concerned about what to do with soap after shaving is when:

You have a lot of soaps and,
    You rotate through them and,
You store them in containers with tight lids (ie. zip lock or anchor hocking bowls)

For the situation above I would make sure you dry the soap out overnight before sealing the lid on tightly. If all your soaps are in wooden bowls (an expensive proposition if you plan on acquiring a lot ) don't worry about it. The lids are loose enough for the product to dry out.

My bowls are okay, but I have some definite cracks and warping ... and I do empty the water out from time to time...
