First DE shave

My first DE shave is in the books. Went pretty well, except one stroke I went ATG without thinking, with too much pressure...ouch! I also forgot the advice about not trying for a bbss the first time out.

The Italian Barber Shaving Soap for Sensitive Skin - Primavera smells good. However, i need to work on making a good lather. Thought I had enough soap loaded, but couldn't get a good lather on my face. Then tried using a mug and that helped. Plus I like the warm lather on my face.

Going to keep trying, but need to forget the "speed shaving" I was doing with the disposables I was using.

Also need to get some shaving balm. Neck is hot. Spashed cold water and some witch hazel on, but need a little more soothing.

But all in all, not a bad shave. Hope to get to a point where theyare enjoyable.

Looks good. Maybe not speed shaving, but I got it down to a few minutes for a two pass shave with a touch up with my DE. I like to shave in the shower with the DE as well. Really keeps everything nice and slick, just make sure the rest of your body is out of the way when you turn on the cold for the post shave rinse.

That's about how mine looked my first time too. That was about 3 weeks ago. Its getting better now as far as the burning after the shave. What I'm doing now that is helping is to not go over everything 3 to 4 times trying to get every whisker I feel after the second pass. If I find a big patch I missed then I'll go over it one more time but I find being so new to this my face just isn't ready for many passes without irritation happening. Good luck and keep at it. It gets better (at least that's what they tell me). :001_unsur

I thought there was some law or something about underage shaver's pornography? Only 1 shave old? there's got to be a law somewhere...

Bravo, and extra points for properly identifying one of the significant signs of razor burn, e.g. Hot skin sensation. My recommendation might be more toward the idea of an Aloe juice + Witch Hazel concoction of your own blend to keep it simple and inexpensive. After you start getting the pressure control - cough - under control; uhm, may I suggest Speick Aftershave Balm? Very nice, healing, and a good introduction to one of the long loved German/Austrian shaving product lines.

Congrats and Welcome to the family!

/edit: Oh! and yes, repeat passes are something which sooner or later we all start realizing it's just not worth it after a couple of times... especially the sharper the blade or 'aggressive' the razor. Pretty soon you're just irritating the nerves at the root of each and every hair. Absolutely no win situation.

Big success! Face looks great. I took up old time shaving because the multiblade/cartridge razors tore me up.

Congrats on your first shave! That's a lot better than many do first time out. Try different blades in your razor, you'll find the right blade for your face and it will make a big difference in comfort. Light pressure wins!

Good work - the 1st is always the hardest
IMHO - an alum block stings a little, but it works wonders for soothing irritation

Shave #2 completed this morning! No nicks!!! I felt the razor burn again, but not has bad. I just did two passes, both straigt down as recommended by mantic59 in one of his videos. This helped me focus more on less presure, however will still need to work on that! I also still need to work on getting the lather right. Going to try loading more soap next time. But these things will come with time.

Looing into to getting a Alum Block. Anyone have experience with Gentleman Jon?

By the way, Thank you for all the comments! I really appreciate all the feed back!

The alum block is perfectly functional and good value. Congrats on your new hobby! Wishing you every success - and many many days of enjoyable 'face'turbation' after exceptionally well-done shaves. (ya, I think I have a twisted sense of this daily habit / necessity... but you too will understand soon enough!)

ahhh :) yes safety razors are good i find they give less burn and nicks than a shavette..stil use shavs every now and then takes around 1-2 months to master...what blade did you use?
