What's new

fine superlite slant razor

I think this is a very nice razor for the price. I shaved with it tonight and had a rough and irritated shave. it's strange because one day, I will shave with this razor and have a flawless shave with basically no irritation and others day, I have a not so good shave and my face left with some irritation. Anyone have any problems with this razor?

No problems with this razor. I recently took it on a week long trip and used it daily. It does require a gentile touch and some attention to the angle. A perfect razor for an ultralight dopp kit.

This razor torques the blade greatly and so you might want to check the blade alignment before making the final twist to secure the head. For myself, it has always been a very smooth razor. Like mentioned above, check your angle. Because the razor is light, I sometimes used to not feel it shaving my face. I later switched to a brass handle and the extra weight made it a better shaving experience.

Mine has become my daily shaver. I like it a lot. Only thing I have a hard time with is right under my nose. I really hate going against the grain under my nose.

This razor is a dream come true for me - a modern copy of the vintage white bakelite slant that Italian Barber was selling.

I got mine £25 shipped from Latvia

It's a good replica,except it's 5g lighter!

And I agree that the big issue is the clunkiness of the head - like those Ever Ready SEs it takes practice to get in the tricky spots under the nose but once you've mastered that it's an awesome shave.

Here it is next to my real deal German '30's slant:

That white slant is simply one of the best shavers I know, so a modern production version is indeed a dream come true.

Nice razors, Marcus. [emoji106]

Razorock just released it's version of a modified copy of that bakelite razor, except it is stainless steel and cost about $100 more. Good designs go far. Now if they would only get to modern copies of the MMOC!

I heard that the Razorock slant was inspired by the IB bakelite but is a mild and meh shaver.
Those original bakelite slants are FIERCE!

I agree - modern copies of OCMM, Streamline, Eclipse Red Ring, New Improved.

Why not?

I shaved with mine for the first time today and first time ever using a slant. It was weird. At times I felt like it wasn't cutting any hairs throughout my passes. When I was done, I rinsed and realized that my face was BBS. It was cutting the entire time. I guess I grew used to the friction that I get with my other razor.

Awesome razor.

Yes, that ABS plastic construction is very smooth. Much smoother than polished stainless steel or a DLC coating, and maybe even smoother than bakelite. I sometimes have trouble because I cannot feel the razor head on my face, but like you, I find out as I am rinsing off that it was working all along. I finally had to switch to a brass handle just to give it some weight so there would be some feel to shaving.

First shave with the Superlite for me this morning:

Pleased to say that it is all that I was hoping for!

Unlike a lot of modern slants, it hasn't been dumbed down - this razor truly feels and performs like the '30's and '40's bakelite slants.

It's got some real bite as is also very smooth.
The slant works great on my normal troublespots and the face feel afterwards also feels exactly like that from those vintage aggressive bakelites.

A lot of people prefer heavier metal razors (and I looks like the RR Wunderbar will appeal to that market) but if you like vintage bakelites then this razor is a dream come true.

Recently did the same thing, took it on a week long trip, and came to the same conclusions. Just an excellent close shaving DE if you mind your P and Qs with it.

I have a question, Sir. What is a good price for one of these? Recently back to D E shaving after a 35+ year hiatus and was wondering if the slants are as good as described. Thanks,

I'm in UK and got mine brand new £25 shipped from Latvia.

The torque on the blade gives it extra rigidity and the slant gives a slicing motion (like a built in Gillette slide) so it's a super efficient smooth and irritation free shave.

The only DEs I know that come close are the vintage Wardonias and the Shavecraft Tech.

Thanks for the quick response, and the excellent explanation of how the shaving is better because of the tautness of the blade. Will more than likely end up with one.
